Last week, our team in Fiji achieved another significant milestone with the successful completion of the first-ever cardiac stenting procedure at the Lautoka Hospital Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab).

A Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Stenting is a minimally invasive procedure to open blocked arteries in the heart. The procedure marks another major step forward in the delivery of advanced cardiac care for patients in the Western Division.

46-year-old Vimelsh Kumar from Votualevu, Nadi, became the first patient to undergo the procedure. Mr Kumar, who had been suffering from severe chest pain and experienced a heart attack in August, expressed his gratitude following the procedure.

“I’m thankful to the doctors involved in the procedure. This procedure has given me another new lease of life,” he said.

The procedure was successfully led by Aspen Medical Specialist Physician/Cardiologist Dr Bharatvansh Bali.

In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month - the guns fell silent, bringing an end to the Great War.

Today, we remember all those who have died in conflicts across the globe, those who have served, and those who continue to serve.

As a veteran-owned business and employer, we acknowledge the sacrifice and service of our veteran employees, past and present, across our global organisation.

Lest we forget.

Dogs like Lingo, need people like Kelly-Ann...

We’re proud to celebrate one of our own, Kelly-Ann King, for her contribution to a cause close to many hearts at Aspen Medical.

Kelly-Ann’s volunteer work with Integra Service Dogs Australia was recently featured in Region Canberra, shining a light on how dogs like Lingo are helping veterans and first responders reclaim their independence and wellbeing.

At Aspen Medical, we back our people in making a difference, whether that’s delivering healthcare in remote regions or supporting community causes beyond their day jobs. Many in our workforce are veterans or work alongside them, and we are committed to recognising and supporting their ongoing service to others.

Steptember is done and dusted…

Hold that thought!

Our team are within a footstep of their goal to raise $5,000.

We’re standing by with our cheque book to match what they have raised.

They are nearly there – but not quite.

Donate at https://www.steptember.org.au/fundraisers/aspenmedical and help them double the amount raised to $10,0000 in aid of cerebral palsy.

Step up and support us this Steptember to support babies with cerebral palsy!

Today, we’re celebrating a year in Lihir! 🎉

Over the past 12 months we’ve provided healthcare not only to our client Newmont Corporation on the island, but also to 30,000 locals at the Newmont-owned medical facility on this island in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea.

We’ve managed more than 11,000 hospital presentations and seen over 250 babies delivered.

Commenting on the first anniversary, Group CEO Craig Fitzgerald said, “Delivering these services in this unique and often challenging environment requires not only skills and expertise, but also dedication and compassion.”

It has been a privilege to bring world class healthcare to this remote part of the Pacific.

Last week, we hosted a Workplace Giving & Volunteering Expo for our teams in Canberra and Brisbane.

Thanks to the various charities - including Aspen Medical Foundation, Project Independence, Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia, RSPCA ACT and many more - that came to our offices to share their mission and chat with our team about how they make a difference.

What a great opportunity to connect, learn and explore ways to give back. 🤗

And of course, pat the cutest puppy! 😍

Fiji’s first laparoscopic hysterectomy has been successfully performed at the Aspen Medical managed Lautoka Hospital, a landmark achievement in women’s healthcare for the island nation.

This milestone was made possible through the collaboration of the Australian/NZ–Fiji Endoscopy Group, working alongside the Oceania Pacific Health Association (OPHA), Ministry of Health & Medical Services, Fiji National University and Aspen Medical. The visiting experts worked hand-in-hand with the Lautoka Hospital surgical team to deliver this historic procedure.

We extend our thanks to all those involved, in particular Dr Temalesi Windust, who led the surgery, and Dr Nanise Sikiti and Dr Sailosi Ratumaitavuki of the Aspen Medical Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at Lautoka Hospital.

Today, Papua New Guinea, celebrates 50 years of independence.

We've been honoured to have played a role in the country's healthcare for some of that time - from assisting with the containment of the country's first ever cholera outbreak, to providing primary healthcare at our Port Moresby clinic, to supporting the population on Lihir Island in the New Ireland Province.

Lihir Island lies 900 km from Port Moresby. It is, by any definition, remote.

It is also home to one of the world’s largest gold mines, where we deliver healthcare services to our client, Newmont Australia.

But there’s another story on this island.

Lihir is also home to almost 30,000 people who depend on the Newmont-owned medical centre, managed by Aspen Medical. Here, our 120-strong team delivers primary and emergency care 24/7, 365 days a year, with most of our dedicated healthcare professionals working FIFO on 22-day on, 20-day off rotations.

Deputy Clinical Manager Liza Wilson takes us behind the scenes, sharing the day-to-day work of our amazing team.
