Golden Oar Weekend 🎉

What a weekend of racing for our Red Shed Scholarship Crews at the Golden Oar Regatta!

We had two scholarship crews hitting the water - one in the Club Mixed Quad and another in the u19 Mixed Coxed Quad - plus our awesome composite Junior Quad (average age of 14!) stepping up to race in the u19 Mixed Coxed Quad.

And the results? Absolutely awesome!

Our Club Mixed Quad powered there way into the A-final against some of Sydney’s top clubs.

Both u19 Mixed Coxed Quads smashed it in the B-final, showing amazing grit and teamwork all weekend.

Huge congrats to all our Rowers, Coxes and Coaches - incredible effort, epic racing and plenty to be proud of ❤️

🌟 Golden Oar is packed with family fun all weekend long — calling all juniors to join us for exciting activities and entertainment, from creative crafts to thrilling challenges on the water.
 
Think you can float your way to victory?
The YMCA x Golden Oar Cardboard Boat Regatta is on! Teams of three to five participants aged 12–18 will have four hours to build a boat from cardboard before hitting the water in a test of creativity, courage and teamwork.
 
📆 Saturday November 1st
⏰ Construction start at 10am with races beginning at 2pm. 
🏆 Not to mention the winning prize of $500 😉

Coaching tips from Lyall McCarthy our Elite coach:

The beauty of sculling means that if your pelvis is in the right position, your knees are in line with your hips and your body can stay tall and strong.

Your body can get into the right position and you can achieve length reaching around the rigger.

The opposite to this is the pelvis now rocking, rowing with knees together, collapsing the body into the front, taking away the ability to reach around for effective length.
