As many of you may be aware there have been some changes to cosmetic treatments from 1 July 2023.
For our patients at Woden Dermatology it will mostly be business as usual. Many of the new changes relate to safe and ethical practice of cosmetic procedures and are currently things that we are doing at our clinic, so you will not notice much of a change to your experience at Woden Dermatology.
However, now these aspects of good patient care are enforced into law and apply to clinics performing non-surgical cosmetic procedures, which we believe is a step in the right direction to make this industry safer and better regulated.
Some of the major changes to the new regulations include:
Informed consent – this is an fundamental part of receiving any medical procedure and means informing you with all of the possible risks, adverse events and outcomes for the procedure that apply specifically to you. This informed consent will also include financial consent that outlines all of the costs associated with the procedure. This will be discussed with you during your pre-treatment consultation and a written copy offered to you following your appointment.
Screening for vulnerable patients – cosmetic procedures are an elective procedure and should only be performed when a patient is well, both physically and mentally. It is well known that certain psychological conditions (such as body dysmorphic disorder) are made worse by cosmetic interventions. The new regulations mandate that we assess every patient for this and refer to the appropriate health practitioner if they need extra support.
Effective from when our laser nurse and injectable’s nurse’s return on 7 July, come to your appointment as normal and while there will be minimal changes, we still want you to enjoy the wonderful service, care and dedication that you always have from the team at Woden Dermatology.
