WHAT CAUSES SHOULDER PAIN?
Did you know that most shoulder problems that develop over time are a direct result of only 2 possible causes? (that is excluding direct trauma)
1. Neck and upper back stress and stiffness!!
This affects the way the nerves supply the different muscles in the shoulder resulting in dysfunctional movement strategies.
Often the primary issue is posture and habits.
To correct this issue try the following
a. Lie on a roller, pool noodle or rolled up towel across your shoulder blades and extend back
b. Draw your shoulders back or bring then together behind you
c. Sit up straighter
2. The other problem is related to poor core control of your shoulder and shoulder blade. Just like what happens with your stomach causing lower back pain, poor shoulder blade control causes repeated rotator cuff stress and pain.
To correct this, work on strengthening your upper back and the specific rotator cuff that is dysfunction. Stretching your pecs also helps
a. try a bent over row or flys.
b.Use lighter weights
c. lie on your back and draw circles or write the alphabet with your arms reaching up to the ceiling.
Or book in and let us find out which issue is the problem so we can prescribe the best action plan.
