Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities. Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250 volunteers. Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability. Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

On Thursday evening, CEO Pegasus, Matt Watson, drew the last envelope in the 2025 Partner draw for the Canberra Community Chest at Thoroughbred Park and Pegasus was teamed up with #1 Victoria Road (Trainer -Ciaron Maher, Jockey -Jean Van Overmeire). In our third year participating in Community Chest, could this be a third time lucky sign for Pegasus?

Pegasus is very appreciative to be in the running for the $25,000 first prize on Sunday but know that our peer charities are also just as deserving and all will be so grateful to take a share in the $50,000.00 prize pool.

Loved catching up with our Pegasus friends and supporters at this fabulous black- tie event, for fabulous local community causes.

Pegasus ACT runs adapted equine programs, both mounted and unmounted, for people with disability in the ACT area. Their offerings include riding lessons, horse handling and groundwork, school-based programs, and social inclusion activities enhanced by equine experience.

Through their work, Pegasus helps participants develop improved physical strength, balance, coordination, confidence, and social skills. The horse-facilitated environment also provides psychological and motivational benefits, fostering inclusion, competence and connection with volunteer mentors.

Pegasus is committed to accessibility: their facilities, programming and volunteer training aim to safely support riders with varied needs. They partner with allied health, schools and families to integrate equine activity into broader therapeutic or developmental goals.

Join us at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday, 23 November where we are racing for a share in $50,000 for the Canberra Community Chest!

The Canberra Community Chest is an inspiring race day spectacle that sees 12 local charities and community groups unite with 12 equine heroes to compete for their share in a $50,000 community chest.

This week Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT was thrilled to accept an IMB Community Bank Foundation Grant for our project centred around our participants with ASD and sensory needs. The project will provide additional support training to our volunteer cohort- as well as provide much needed new equipment and tailored storage.

Pegasus joined a number of local for purpose organisations, all receiving grants assisting them in their valuable work. We enjoyed learning about community connections being made by Canberra Choral Society and Women's Group, Love Bites program, among others.

Thanks so much again to the IMB BankI Community Foundation. We look forward to sharing our project progress.
