Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities. Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250 volunteers. Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability. Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

Pegasus Riding for the Disabled would like to sincerely thank Matthew Watson for his contribution to the organisation and the community we serve.

During his time with Pegasus, Matthew made a valued contribution to the organisation’s work, including leading the Pegasus Golden Gala to celebrate 50 years of service to the Canberra community, an important milestone in the history of Pegasus and a wonderful opportunity to recognise the impact of our services over many decades.

We thank Matthew for his commitment to Pegasus and wish him all the very best for the future.

We are also pleased to welcome John Riley as Interim CEO. We look forward to John’s leadership and support as Pegasus continues its important work with participants, families, volunteers and the broader Canberra community.

Last week, representatives from Pegasus had the pleasure of attending the 2026 John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Cocktail Party at Thoroughbred Park.

We loved the opportunity to see long time Pegasus supporters Peter Cain MLA, Canberra Racing Club Chair Les Boag, the team from Thoroughbred Park CEO Darren Pearce, Robbie Ringland and Tia Zardo and MC Cam Sullings. It was also lovely to meet and chat with Marisa Paterson MLA.

Pegasus look forward to hosting our upcoming charity race day at this amazing venue with the Thoroughbred Park team, scheduled for 26 June 2026, watch this space!
