Pegasus is an iconic Canberra charity which exists to empower people to develop their abilities. Established in 1973, Pegasus is located at Pegasus Farm on the outskirts of Canberra, the national capital. Around 80 people each week with a disability participate in our horse-facilitated therapy programs. Pegasus would not survive without the support it receives from the community and more than 250 volunteers. Our sessions are offered in an integrated environment with participants placed according to their ability. Apart from being fun, horse riding helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscle development and fitness. It also boosts confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, leadership and trust.

This week Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT was thrilled to accept an IMB Community Bank Foundation Grant for our project centred around our participants with ASD and sensory needs. The project will provide additional support training to our volunteer cohort- as well as provide much needed new equipment and tailored storage.

Pegasus joined a number of local for purpose organisations, all receiving grants assisting them in their valuable work. We enjoyed learning about community connections being made by Canberra Choral Society and Women's Group, Love Bites program, among others.

Thanks so much again to the IMB BankI Community Foundation. We look forward to sharing our project progress.

Thank you to Hands Across Canberra for inviting Pegasus to their Annual Dinner on Wednesday 29 October 2025.

This night gives for purpose organisations like ours, the opportunity to share success stories and challenges with the business community. It also is a beautiful evening witnessing philanthropy at work in our community and to celebrate great outcomes.

At Pegasus, we love talking about our amazing programs for people with disability through our equine programs. Thank you to our table sponsors CDC Data Centres for supporting Pegasus Riding for the Disabled of the ACT

Thanks Ben Appleton; Photox - Canberra Photography Services for the lovely photograph.

What a Golden evening it was as we celebrated 50 years of Pegasus Riding for the Disabled at the National Arboretum on Saturday evening. At the heart of what we do is our participants with disability and service delivery to them through our Pegasus ponies. From the first glimpses of ponies during cocktail hour, where our story started our night was filled with magic (literally with Jacob the magician), history (thanks Kevin Bhadra our Board Chair), where we are at and where we would like to go (Matt Watson CEO), being grateful for our Pegasus friends, their support and generosity (Jo Kennedy) musical treats for Sophie Edwards, Hamish Hudson and The Baker Boys a great chat with artist, former Pegasus rider and Pegasus volunteer (also Young Australian of the Year for the ACT), Daniel Bartholomaeus about the influence of Pegasus on his journey; and finally the story of why we do what we do with mum Mary Lishomwa speaking to us about the transformation and hope that Pegasus give people with disability, like her daughter Abs (Abigail) long term rider at Pegasus.

Enjoy some photographs from the night taken by the very talented Ben Appleton, Photox. Such a pleasure to have your presence:
