As many of you have kicked of your running programs or playing a summer sport, though it would be a good time to give those of you looking for that extra edge some timely information regarding mobility and flexibility.
Let's talk about a crucial aspect of AFL training that's often overlooked: mobility and flexibility. Don't get me wrong, strength and endurance are vital but if you're not flexible and mobile, you're limiting your potential on the field. 🤸♂️
Mobility and flexibility aren't just about touching your toes or doing splits (although, let's be real, it's pretty cool when you can 😎). They're about being able to move freely and quickly around the field, changing direction on a dime, and maintaining balance while dodging opponents.
Benefits of mobility and flexibility in AFL training:
1️⃣ Injury prevention: Flexible muscles and joints are less prone to strains and tears.
2️⃣ Improved performance: Mobility and flexibility help you accelerate, decelerate, and change direction quickly, giving you an edge on the field.
3️⃣ Better balance and coordination: You'll be able to leap for marks, dodge opponents, and land safely without losing your footing.
How to incorporate mobility and flexibility into your AFL training:
1️⃣ Dynamic stretching: Incorporate leg swings, arm circles, and hip rotations into your warm-up routine.
2️⃣ Mobility exercises: Actions done through a big range of motion, like lunges, squats can help improve action through the hips.
3️⃣ Yoga or mobility sessions: Book a session with a coach or trainer to work on your flexibility and mobility.
Don't neglect your mobility and flexibility training and of course if you need any advice, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
