Flu season is here! Here are five tips to keep you healthy this winter:

1. Get Vaccinated. Not only does your immunity to flu wane over time, the virus changes every year. Yearly ‘flu shots’ are recommended for everyone (except infants under 6 months old). Covid-19 booster recommendations vary. We can vaccinated anyone over 5 years old. Walk-In or book in here:

https://www.medadvisor.com.au/Network/CapitalChemistCrace

2. Wash your hands. If Covid-19 taught us anything, it’s that handwashing matters. Germs can live on surfaces for 24 hours, so wash before you eat, prepare food, or visit an immunocompromised friend or family member.

3. Eat your vitamins. Grandma wasn’t joking about getting your vitamin C. Eat a variety of vitamins and minerals from fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, nuts, oils, and fish. Include fermented foods like yoghurt or sauerkraut for a probiotic boost too. Our range of quality vitamins help a stronger immune support.

4. Sleep for 7+ hours. Sleeping gives our body a chance to focus on producing cytokines – an immune boosting protein designed to target and reduce infection and inflammation. Aim for at least seven hours sleep each night.

5. Live in balance. Flu thrives on stress and bad habits, so support your immunity with balance: move in ways you enjoy, drink plenty of water, spend time outside, quit smoking, moderate drinking, and prioritise activities and people you love.

Talk to your local Capital Chemist to learn more about how to protect yourself and your loved ones this winter. Book your flu shot today, walk-ins subject to availability.

We’re so excited to help support and unveil the latest streetbeat defibrillator, now installed and ready to save lives at Crace Shopping Centre.

70-80 people die in Australia each day, outside of the hospital, from cardiac arrest. It’s one of our biggest killers. Having defibrillators available in public places can be the difference between life and death.

In a cardiac emergency, quick access to a defib can increase the chance of survival by up to 70%

That's why we are proud to partner with Community Bank Canberra and Regions, Service One,Bendigo Bank, and St John Ambulance ACT in the Street Beast initiative to roll out defibs all over Canberra.

De-fibs are easy to use, save precious time before paramedics arrive, it is available 24/7 and empower everyday heroes.

Vitamins and minerals are you getting enough?

Are mouth ulcers, muscle cramps, fatigue, and other common complaints just another part of your life? What if we told you they could be your body’s way of asking for more vitamins or minerals? Feeling better might be easier than you think.

1. Recurrent mouth ulcers/cracked lips (especially at corners)
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) supports your cells and maintains energy levels. As the body can only store small amounts, daily consumption is essential.
Boost levels with an extra serve of meat, eggs, or dairy products in your day.

2. Muscle weakness/painful bone
Vitamin D and calcium work together for bone, muscle, and overall health, but symptoms of deficiency can be subtle.
Get your daily vitamin D with just 5-10 minutes of sunlight on your face and arms during Summer.

3. Bleeding gums/gingivitis
Vitamin C helps with more than just immunity; it’s essential for healthy gums, wound healing, and iron absorption.
Boost vitamin C with an extra daily serve of orange juice, rock melon, capsicum, or broccoli.

4. Nighttime leg cramps/anxiety or insomnia.
Magnesium has many roles, including supporting blood pressure, blood sugars, muscle function, and the nervous system.
Boost magnesium levels with dark chocolate, leafy greens, legumes, and nuts.

5. Muscle cramps / tooth decay
Calcium is essential for muscle, heart, and nervous system health. If you don’t consume enough, the body borrows from bones and teeth, causing low bone density and dental problems.
Boost calcium levels with dairy products, calcium-fortified soy options, and dry nuts.

Endometriosis growths do not always cause pain, but when they do, there is often a pattern to the flare-ups. Keeping a symptoms diary can help you and your healthcare team manage and reduce your symptoms. Common triggers include hormonal changes, stress, alcohol, certain foods or medications, lack of sleep, and some strenuous activities.

Your doctor may also prescribe treatment with medications, including pain relief or hormones to reduce the impact of symptoms, or minor surgery to remove the endometriosis growths.

In May 2025 the Australian Government added more new endometriosis treatment to the PBS. This medication is now more affordable, and is life changing for some patients with endometriosis. Please speak to your GP to find out if it is right for you.

For support and lifestyle advice to get the most out of your treatment plan or over-the-counter solutions to manage your pain and reduce symptoms during flare-ups, talk to our friendly Capital Chemist Crace Pharmacist today forr more detail.

Heading back to school?

Did you know that head lice are a common infestation, especially among primary school children? Around 30% of all primary school-aged children get head lice at least once a year. But don't worry; we're here to help you tackle this pesky problem head-on!

Here are some essential points to remember:

Head lice are small, wingless insects that live, breed, and feed on the human scalp.
Anyone can catch head lice, which has nothing to do with unwashed or dirty hair. Head lice prefer clean hair over dirty hair.
Head lice are easily transmitted through head-to-head contact or hat sharing.
If your child has head lice, it's crucial to reduce contact with others until treated to prevent the infestation from spreading.
Using the right products to eliminate head lice and washing all clothes and bedding that may have been infested can successfully clear the infestation.
Repeat treatments are often necessary to eradicate the infestation, as head lice can resist some treatments.
Itchiness is a common sign of head lice, but not everyone will experience it.
Head lice eggs, or nits, are oval-shaped and about the size of a pinhead. They are firmly attached to the hair strands close to the scalp.
If the eggs have hatched, you might notice a cut-off top and a tiny six-legged insect nearby. That's your signal to take immediate action and treat, treat, treat!

If you're feeling frustrated due to frequent re-infestation or dealing with a particularly stubborn case, visit Capital Chemist Crace. Our friendly team is here to assist you in finding the proper treatment for your family.

Do you wake up feeling groggy and tired?

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea affects up to 10% of Australians, is linked to snoring and is associated with serious health conditions.

At Capital Chemist Crace we offer a simple take-home test for screening and diagnosis, and customised treatments for patients who test positive.

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is a condition where soft tissues in the throat relax as you sleep, thus reducing or preventing the flow of oxygen to your lungs. This leads to drops in body oxygen levels, which raises your body defences to start you breathing again. This leads to an "almost awake" state which precludes deep and restorative sleep. The drop in oxygen puts stress on your heart and other organs and increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease and workplace accidents. And loud snoring can be very antisocial!

Masks and machines provide continual positive airway pressure to keep your airways open ensuring a good night’s sleep for you (and those you share a room with)!

To find out more about diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea, talk to us today, or visit
