We introduce new initiatives to develop the quality and scope of our services, all our people are encouraged to be innovative and contribute to the constant improvement of our operations. We must do the job right, the first time, to the highest quality standards and incorporating best practice procedures. We encourage a high level of teamwork and integration of work and multiskilling, fostering a positive workplace attitude and us of initiative, mutual understanding and trust.

The purple takeover has begun! 💜

Our site walks today were a total blast, with residents, staff, sponsors, and even a few VIPs (and pups!) hitting the pavement. It was the perfect warm-up for the big one.

It has been five years since we welcomed this beautiful Batemans Bay community into the Goodwin family. We are so proud to have built upon the wonderful legacy of The Manor, providing a vibrant and supportive home for our South Coast residents.

We are incredibly proud to congratulate Professor Henry Brodaty AO on being named the 2026 Senior Australian of the Year.

Widely regarded as the ‘godfather’ of dementia research in Australia, Professor Brodaty has spent more than four decades fundamentally transforming how we understand and care for those living with the condition.

As a co-founder of organisations that became Dementia Australia, his work is the direct reason our Goodwin community is such a passionate supporter of the annual Memory Walk & Jog.

Each year, we hit the pavement to support the vital research and advocacy pathways he has championed throughout his distinguished career. We are honoured to celebrate a visionary whose lifelong dedication continues to bring hope and progress to so many families.

Celebrating our local legends this Australia Day, starting with our very own David Learoyd from !

David was recently surprised by friends & family with the Australia Day Medallion for his exceptional service to the Tuggeranong Valley RSL sub-branch. While he joked about feeling "underdressed and overwhelmed" during the ceremony, his dedication to the veteran community is truly outstanding.

Since 2011, David has been a tireless volunteer & served with distinction in several leadership roles, including as sub-branch President from 2019 until 2025.

It’s legends like David who make our Goodwin community so special. Happy Australia Day to all our residents, staff, and families! 🇦🇺🥂✨

Our Story

Goodwin is Canberra’s largest and longest serving local specialist in retirement living and seniors' care. Established in 1954, the not-for-profit organisation governed by a skills-based board and owned by its members, for its members, provides leading-edge residential aged care and retirement living options at villages in Ainslie, Monash, Farrer and Crace. Goodwin also provides home care services and seniors' Day Clubs across the ACT and regional southern NSW.

Superior service, facilities and clinical care capabilities set Goodwin apart. We believe that every person should have quality of life and the opportunity to stay productive in their community.

Goodwin has its roots in a women's community group, the National Council of Women who in 1954 began a campaign to ensure Canberra's seniors gained dedicated housing and support. Twelve community leaders formed a committee to pursue this ambitious idea, fundraising and lobbying for some years until opening Canberra's first residential aged care facility and seniors' housing, in Ainslie. They adopted the name Goodwin in honour of Lt Col John Goodwin, a renowned public servant and a tireless advocate of seniors’ rights.

Goodwin has come a long way since. Today Goodwin serves around 2500 seniors and continues to set benchmarks in quality aged care, partnering with research organisations on new care methodologies, and winning numerous awards for its retirement living villages and modern, sustainably designed apartments.
