Let’s get the facts straight 💅🏼
Just because period pain is common, doesn’t mean that you should suffer every month
A major cause of period pain is systemic inflammation🔥
At the start of your period, the uterus begins to release prostaglandins to stimulate the uterine muscles to contract in order to shed the lining. Prostaglandins are a normal part of the process but too many prostaglandins indicate inflammation. Some things to consider:
👉🏼 Do you consume a lot of refined carbohydrates, sugar, processed foods or seed oils. All these foods are highly inflammatory.
👉🏼 Are you sensitive to cow’s dairy? The problem is not the lactose or fat, rather it’s the protein A1 casein. A1 casein in some people can stimulate the immune system to generate inflammatory cytokines. You’ll know you’re sensitive if you experience hay fever, nasal congestion and recurrent sinus infections,
Goat’s or sheep’s milk products don’t cause this problem.
👉🏼 Do you have histamine intolerance?
Histamine intolerance is a condition of having too much of the inflammatory compound histamine. Histamine intolerance can cause, and worsen, period problems such as pain and pms symptoms like anxiety, acne, brain fog and headaches.
👉🏼 Do you have gut dysbiosis?
Having the wrong types of bacteria in your gut can mean your toxin load increases as they produces endotoxins called lipopolysaccharides (LPS). This activates your immune system to generate inflammation to deal with these bacterial overgrowths and pathogens.
👉🏼 Do you have endometriosis or adenomyosis? These are inflammatory conditions that are driven by immune dysregulation and hormonal imbalances (oestrogen dominance). The pain associated with these conditions is severe, sometimes even debilitating, with pain even occurring around ovulation and leading up to a period.
There are effective naturopathic treatments for period pain. Some of my favourite include magnesium glycinate, PEA, turmeric, concentrated fish oil and herbs that are warming, decongesting and antispasmodic to the pelvic area.
Consult with a naturopath to get to the root cause of your period problems and say adios to monthly period pain forever 👋🏼
