Hot weather = more holiday reading!
With temperatures pushing 40 several days in a row here in Canberra, it’s definitely a good time to slow down and take it easy if you can.
For me it has also meant adventure planning for the year ahead, including time in New Zealand, the Flinders Ranges and hopefully a nice long paddle down the mighty River Murray

Always learning - nature therapy books for Xmas
Apparently my people really get me.
Christmas came with a stack of books that all point in the same direction:
- keep learning
- keep questioning
- keep growing
Grateful to have a fella, family and friends who know that curiosity is my love language.
Grateful to have another week off to read!!
Always learning 🌿
Help to get your NatureFix
We all need help connecting to nature sometimes.
The Playles Hill Nature Wellness Trail in Corryong is a wonderful example of how to make short, simple connection and relaxation practices accessible to all.
From the walking labyrinth to the wonderful sky seat, visitors to this local park are encouraged to stop and observe, listen and experience the natural environment.
At each stop a QR code links to a selection of guided activities, reflections and meditations on the NatureFix app.
You can also use the app to find similar nature trails in other areas.
I’d love something like this in Canberra 🌿

Discomfort = Growth
Discomfort really does equal growth.
Three years ago I was burnt out, broken and felt like I’d failed.
So I learned to paraglide!
Not because it was easy (it absolutely wasn’t), but because it scared me in a way that made me feel alive again.
Every bit of doubt and fear built strength, capability and trust in myself.
It reminded me that I could do hard stuff, and it still does, every single time I fly.
Growth rarely comes wrapped in comfort does it - what could be waiting for you on the other side of your own fears?
Take a nature break this Christmas
Take a nature break this Christmas for a very happy holiday season:
Step outside
Breathe
Let go…
Nature will ground you and put a smile on your face - I promise.
Merry Christmas
🎄
Storms = release and renewal
A Summer Solstice storm ⛈️
Storms are a great reminder that instability and release are part of life’s cycle.
That energy builds for a reason.
That clearing can be loud, messy, and necessary.
So here‘s to a solstice that shakes things loose and makes space for whatever needs to come next. 🌩️🌿
Breathe with nature
Need some calm in the lead up to Christmas?
Try 4-6 breathing, anytime, anywhere:
- Inhale for a count of four (nose)
- Exhale for a count of six (mouth)
A longer exhale helps reduce stress, improve focus, and promote relaxation.
Extra relaxing if done in nature 🌿

What is water telling you?
Don’t you love a mountain stream?
Water is refreshing in much more than just the traditional sense - it encourages us to let go of whatever is no longer serving us and shows us how to go with the flow of life’s twists and turns.
Worth remembering 🙂

Find calm on the horizon
If your mind, like mine, often gets stuck looping on the same thought, finding an expansive view can help interrupt that pattern.
When we look out to a distant horizon, the brain can switch from protection and problem-fixing into a more open, creative state. That alone can loosen the grip of rumination.
Here’s a small practice to try:
- step outside,
- find the furthest point you can see — a treeline, a hill, the far edge of the water
- let your gaze rest there for a minute or two.
Don’t try to solve anything. Just give your mind the cue that there’s more space than the thought you’re stuck in.
Often the thinking doesn’t just stop; it shifts. And that tiny shift is usually enough to help you move forward again. 🌿
Ahhhhhhh… forest ‘therapy’ 🙂
Reconnect with your body
Movement has always had this wonderful way of pulling me out of my busy brain and into the here and now.
No past. No future. Just the trees, the air, and on the bike, every twist and turn of the trail.
If you’re feeling stuck in your head lately, maybe it’s time to get into your body.
It doesn’t have to be biking — just something that invites you to move, breathe, and reconnect with that deeper flow inside 🌿
Listen to the sound of nature
After a big storm last night the birds were going crazy this morning and singing their little hearts out.
For me there is something uplifting about letting the sounds of nature wrap around me while I just stand and listen.
Here’s a way to try it:
🌿 Pause for a minute or two
👂 Listen to wherever you ears take you - one specific sound or maybe many
💨 Breathe it all in, lightly, slowly
🧘🏻♀️ And observe how your body responds
Stay here for a few minutes letting the sounds draw you out of your mind and back into your body — back into the present moment.
What is nature saying to you?
