🐾 Meet the Team – Ash! 🐾

Ever wondered who the faces are behind your pet’s care team? Meet Ash, our amazing hospital nurse 💙 Around the clinic, she’s known for two things: mysteriously triggering bowel movements in almost every patient she touches… 💩😂 and her iconic pet-carrying sling. When a patient needs extra comfort, Ash straps them in and carries them around, keeping them safe, calm, and very spoiled 🐶🫶

🐾 Best advice for first-time pet owners?
Get pet insurance and research your breeds!

🐾 What made you want to work in the vet industry?
A lifelong love for dogs 🐕

🐾 Do you have any pets?
Two “children” (Golden Retrievers!) named Reggie and Scottie — also known as “the ladies” when they’re together 💁‍♀️🐶🐶

🐾 Cats or dogs?
Dogs (obviously 😉)

🐾 Favourite movie or TV show?
Surf’s Up 🐧🌊

🐾 One thing every pet owner should know?
Prevention is ALWAYS better than a cure 🩺✨

Congratulations to this amazing class for graduating puppy preschool on Wednesday night! 🎓
These little angels all had a wonderful time over the past four weeks, learning new things and socialising with new friends and people.

Puppy preschool is a great way to introduce your new fur baby to other dogs and encourage them to start socialising at a young age! Want to find out more? Give Cardiff Vets (49547055) or Cameron Park Vets (49586635) a call and speak with nurse Jen about the next class today!

Once agin a huge round of applause for these lovely ladies and gentlemen: Eddie, Luna, Teddy, Marlie & Rudy!!👏🏼🎓

🐾 Reggie’s Golden Rule: No Hot Cross Buns for Dogs!🍞💛
Meet Reggie, a beautiful 3-year-old Golden Retriever who belongs to our amazing Nurse Ash. While out on a walk, Reggie sniffed out a packet of hot cross buns someone had left behind — and before Ash could stop her, she’d already eaten some! 😱
Hot cross buns may seem harmless, but they contain raisins, which are highly toxic to dogs and can cause serious issues like kidney failure, even in small amounts.
Thankfully, Ash acted fast and brought Reggie straight into the clinic, where Dr Lee jumped into action. Reggie received immediate treatment, which involved:
💉 Inducing vomiting to remove the buns from her stomach and prevent absorption of toxins
💉 Giving an anti-nausea injection to help her feel better afterwards
Because Nurse Ash was quick to seek medical care, Reggie's stay with us was very short. She was such a brave girl and is now back to her happy, tail-wagging self. 💛
🚨 If your dog eats raisins, sultanas, grapes, hot cross buns or chocolate — don’t wait!
Call us right away at Cardiff (4955 7055) or Cameron Park (4958 6635).
Time really is critical with toxin ingestions.
Stay safe this Easter — and keep those human treats well out of paw’s reach! 🐶🐾

🍫⚠️ Chocolate & Pets: A Dangerous Combination! ⚠️🐶🐱
Did you know that chocolate is highly toxic to both dogs and cats? Even small amounts can cause serious health issues! Here’s what you need to know:

Why is chocolate dangerous?
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which pets can’t metabolise like humans do. This can lead to:
❌ Vomiting & diarrhea
❌ Rapid heart rate
❌ Tremors & seizures
❌ Death in severe cases

Which chocolates are most toxic?
The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is:
⚠️ Baking chocolate & cocoa powder – HIGHLY toxic
⚠️ Dark chocolate – Very dangerous
⚠️ Milk chocolate – Harmful in moderate amounts
⚠️ White chocolate – Least toxic, but still not safe

What to do if your pet eats chocolate?
📞 Call your us immediately on 49547055 (Cardiff) or 49586635 (Cameron Park) within clinic hours. Time is critical.
🚑 Contact an AREC (Broadmeadow) on 49577106 or SASH (Tuggerah) 43111 311
⏳ Try to note the type & amount of chocolate eaten.

Prevent it!
✔️ Keep chocolate out of reach.
✔️ Warn kids & guests not to share with pets.
✔️ Offer pet-safe treats instead!
🐕 Have questions about chocolate toxicity? Drop them below or call us! We’re here to help keep your pets safe. 💙🐾

⚠️🐶🐱 Hot Cross Buns & Pets Don’t Mix! 🍞❌
They’re a delicious Easter treat for us — but hot cross buns can be highly toxic to dogs and cats. Even small amounts can cause serious health issues, especially because of one hidden danger: raisins (and sultanas).
🚨 Why are hot cross buns dangerous?
Hot cross buns often contain:
❌ Raisins & sultanas – can cause kidney failure in dogs and possibly cats
❌ Nutmeg – can be toxic in large amounts
❌ Yeast dough – can cause dangerous bloating and alcohol toxicity if unbaked
There’s no safe number of raisins – some pets react severely to just one or two!
🩺 Symptoms to watch for after ingestion:
🔹 Vomiting
🔹 Diarrhoea
🔹 Lethargy
🔹 Loss of appetite
🔹 Increased thirst or urination
🔹 Signs of kidney damage (can appear within hours or take days)
📞 What should you do if your pet eats hot cross buns?
Call us immediately — the sooner we start treatment, the better the outcome.
📍 Cardiff: 4955 7055 | Cameron Park: 4958 6635
After-hours? Contact AREC Broadmeadow (4957 7106) or SASH Tuggerah (4311 1311)
🐾 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Keep hot cross buns well out of reach
✔️ Remind kids and guests not to share
✔️ Stick to pet-safe Easter treats only!
Your pet’s safety is our top priority — if in doubt, call us! 💙🐾

Ever wondered who the faces are behind your pet’s care team? 🐾
Meet Carolyn — one of our incredible vets, known for her compassion, dedication, and the genuine care she brings to every patient and their family ❤️

🐾 What’s your favourite part of helping pets and their owners?
Honouring the human–animal bond and creating care plans that are tailored to each pet and their individual circumstances.

🐾 Do you have any pets?
I have 3 dogs and 4 cats! My heart pet is my dog Jett, a toy poodle I rescued from being euthanised during COVID. We bonded instantly — we’re so in tune with one another, and he’s proof that true love doesn’t need words 🐶

🐾 What type of cases or animals do you particularly enjoy working with?
I love helping senior patients live their best life and supporting them through their golden years.

🐾 What’s the most unusual animal you’ve worked with?
I performed an eye enucleation on a goldfish! My own goldfish, Lumpy, had an eye tumour. He was very special to us, having belonged to my mother-in-law before she passed. He came through the procedure brilliantly — it was a humbling experience and I learned so much.

🐾 What does 2026 look like for you?
I’m hoping to dive back into my special interest area of companion animal behaviour.

Carolyn is passionate about providing thoughtful, personalised care to every patient 🐶🐱
Be sure to say hi next time you’re in clinic 👋

Ever wondered who the faces are behind your pet’s care team? 🐾
We’re sure you’ve all met Chloe — the friendly face greeting you at reception and the voice on the other end of the phone. A vet nurse and receptionist extraordinaire, Chloe keeps our clinic running with a constant smile 😊

🐾 What is one simple thing people can do to keep their pet healthy?
Feed a complete, balanced, and age-appropriate diet — especially a dental diet to help maintain healthy teeth.

🐾 What do you love most about your role in the clinic?
I love working through medical cases with the vets — especially when we’re diagnosing and creating treatment plans together. Ultrasound cases are a favourite!

🐾 Do you have any pets?
Yes — lots! I have three dogs: Pixie (miniature Maltese), Bullet (12-year-old Bull Arab mix), and Beau (10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier). I also have a domestic short hair cat called Teardrop, and a 21-year-old horse named Meg, who has been with me for 13 years 🐶🐱🐴

🐾 What is one thing you wish every pet owner knew?
Vet bills can sometimes feel expensive, but unlike human healthcare, veterinary clinics don’t receive government funding or subsidies. All equipment, medications, and care are privately funded. The cost reflects the expertise, training, and care needed to treat multiple species — especially when our patients can’t tell us what’s wrong.

🐾 What made you want to become a vet nurse?
I’ve always wanted to work with animals. From the age of 4, I watched my grandfather breed, raise, and train greyhounds — and once I was old enough, I helped too. I’d sit in the whelping kennel with our girl Daisy when she had puppies, and she always let me help and play with them. When I was 6, I got my first pet, Miffy — a tiny mini Maltese. I’ve had animals my whole life and couldn’t imagine it any other way ❤️

Be sure to say hi to Chloe next time you’re in clinic 👋
