🎗️ Breast Cancer in Men: Yes, It Happens
Most people don’t realise that men can develop breast cancer too. While it’s rare, it’s not impossible and early detection can save lives.

In Australia, over 200 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. The average age of diagnosis is around 71, but it can happen earlier.

🔍 Know the signs:

A lump or swelling in the chest (often behind or near the ni**le)
Ni**le discharge or changes in appearance
Skin changes over the chest — dimpling, redness, or puckering
Pain or tenderness
Swollen lymph nodes in the armpit

🧬 Risk factors include family history, age, high estrogen levels, obesity, and rare genetic conditions like BRCA2 mutations or Klinefelter’s syndrome.

📣 Here’s the message: If you’re a man and notice anything unusual — don’t ignore it. Breast cancer in men often goes undiagnosed until it’s advanced. Your GP can help.

Let’s break the stigma that breast cancer only affects women. Awareness = early action = better outcomes.

Know Your ABCs. Skin Cancer doesn't wait.

As we move into warmer weather, it’s time to get serious about protecting your skin and checking for signs of skin cancer.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. The good news? When caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable. That’s why regular skin checks are so important — both at home and with your GP.

👀 Here’s how to remember what to look for with the ABCs of melanoma and skin changes:
A - Asymmetry
One half of the mole doesn’t match the other half.
B - Border
Edges are irregular, ragged, notched, or blurred.
C - Colour
Varied shades of brown, black, tan, red, white, or blue in a single lesion.
D - Diameter
The spot is larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser) but they can be smaller too.
E - Evolving
Any change in size, shape, colour, elevation, or symptoms (like bleeding, itching, or crusting).

🔍 Even if you’ve had the same spots for years, pay attention to anything new or changing, these are red flags that deserve medical attention.

At Castle Hill Medical Centre, your GPs are experienced in full-body skin checks. If anything suspicious is found, we’ll guide you through the next steps with care and support.

🌞 Before you spend another sunny day outdoors, book a skin check. It’s quick, easy, and could save your life.
