When planning a homebirth one of my discussions with families with other little ones is what are your feeling towards your little ones being at the home in birth?
It is very welcomed and normal for other children to be part of welcoming their babies into the world along side mum and dad
If little ones are going to be present within homebirth it is important to get them involved in the preparation for the birth some fun ways I suggest parents to start warming them up are:
- Reading children appropriate books to them my favorite homebirthing book is hello baby by Jenni overend, reading books regularly
- let them help, hands on helping creating the beautiful space, hanging lights, blowing up the pool with you or dad, go supply shopping, get them helping pack supply boxes with towels, sheets and explaining why they are needed (if age appropriate)
-play games: birth games are a great way to get little ones use to sounds they may hear or movements mum may do. Mummy stomping and groaning. Positions in the pool movements in the pool if you have a baby doll bring baby doll up to your chest (aww the baby is born!)
- let little ones play in pool supervised (no water) Harrison my son demonstrating this morning having a dance party in the pool blown up.
Have fun with it! Our little ones are so smart and pick up on the big changes about to happen ❤️❤️
