Finding Yellow - NDIS Registered Provider

We provide Support Coordination, Accomodation and Community Support for people with disabilities. The group gained swift support from the Hunter community.

In the 1970s, a group of local parents came together with one goal: to improve care and support services for people with disability in the Hunter region. As parents of children with disability, they recognised that existing services were insufficient and needed to change. They were determined to provide their children and future generations with the quality support they deserved as valuable members of society. Tireless community fundraising efforts led to the opening of Cessnock Hostel in 1982, finally providing much-needed support to local residents with disability. In 2013, our organisation was renamed “Finding Yellow”. The name represents our unwavering commitment to the community and our determination to discover better resources, stronger community networks, and improved facilities for our clients. It is also a reflection of our clients’ individual journeys towards improved confidence, independence, goal success, and fulfilment. Starting with a handful of determined parents, Finding Yellow now offers an extensive range of disability support services to the local Hunter region.

Finding Yellow joins ConnectAbility Australia 💛

Following the news of our merger with ConnectAbility Australia, we want to share what comes next for our team and clients. This merger has been made to ensure the services you know and trust continue to grow and thrive.

Since 1992, ConnectAbility has supported over 1,780 people across Cessnock and the Hunter, offering services from allied health and community programs to support coordination, SIL, plan management, early intervention, and youth services. Our goal with this merger is a seamless transition, with no noticeable change to the support you receive.

All of your familiar Finding Yellow support staff have joined ConnectAbility, so the services you love will continue just as they are, now with extra support and resources behind them.

A day full of wonder at the Irukandji Shark & Ray Centre 🦈✨

Our Social Circles crew explored rays and sharks of all shapes and sizes, and Anne-Marie even hopped in the water to feed and pat the sharks!

Recently, at Hutton St, the team chatted about starting a new veggie patch!

With a little daylight left, Tony and Chris jumped straight in, eager to get their hands in the soil and start weeding a garden bed. Keep an eye out as we continue to work our outdoor magic. Exciting things growing ahead! 🌿🌞

Some exciting news for our community!

After 76 years of combined experience supporting individuals across Newcastle and the Hunter. Finding Yellow and ConnectAbility Australia have come together.

What this merger means:
✅ Continuity of services for all customers, with minimal disruption
✅ A seamless transition for our valued staff
✅ Stronger, sustainable support for the future

Both boards agreed this is the best path forward to make sure our services remain strong and our community continues to be supported for many years to come.

A proud moment for one of Finding Yellow SIL participants Tony as he received a certificate for Retail Services through his Day Program supports with Sunnyfield Disability Services. What an achievement!

It highlights that people with a disability can achieve anything when supported in a truly collaborative environment that puts participants first and focusing on shared goals that empower participants to succeed.
