Accessed. Disability Access Progressed. Access reports, audits & advice. LHA assessments, SDA certification. (Formerly BCA Access Solutions)

Our consultancy was created in response to the increasing awareness of accessibility within the built environment. The introduction of the Premises Standards in May 2011 and subsequent significant changes to building legislation has seen an increase in the involvement of professionals specialising in access. Since 2008, we have evolved into an access consultancy with a national presence, incorporating the full extent of disability access legislation and standards for public buildings and residential dwellings. We provide access consulting services primarily in NSW and ACT, and also reaching Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory, to building certifiers, local councils, builders, project managers, architects, town planners, building owners and tenants, disability services and international projects for the Australian Government. We offer advice during the design, approval and construction phases of accessible buildings and provide practical solutions for buildings to achieve compliance with relevant legislation and standards, including:
- Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
- Premises Standards – Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards (Premises Standards)
- Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport
- Building Code of Australia (BCA) – Volume 1 of the National Construction Code (NCC)
- Relevant and referenced Australian Standards for accessibility and adaptable housing - AS 1428.1, AS 1428.4.1, AS 2890.6, AS 4299
- Livable Housing Design Guidelines
- NDIS SDA Design Standards

We’ve learnt to not make assumptions about the roles people with a disability can fulfil!

The quote emergency registrar Dr Dinesh Palipana (left) lives by is "say yes, then learn how to do it later." (thanks Richard Branson!)

Despite an accident nearly 16 years ago leaving him paralysed, Dr Palipana has never let it stop him from achieving his dreams.

"When it comes to disability or even trying anything knew, sometimes we intellectualise it too much. Sometimes you have to dive in and figure it out as you go," he said.

"I was surrounded by people who were willing to help me as well, and we're setting the standard globally."

Dr Palipana now reminds others in similar positions that dreams are still achievable, with interns travelling across the world to train with him - most recently, Dr Daniel Wei (right), who's about to commence his internship in New Zealand.

"This was my first time back in a clinical environment since I sustained a T6 spinal cord injury last year," Dr Wei said.

"Being at GCUH with Dinesh helped me overcome the psychological and physical challenges of practicing while seated. He mentored me, helping me refine my positioning and setup for examinations and procedures so I could develop objective, repeatable skills."

"Seeing others come through with a similar dream and goals and be able to support them is really special," Dr Palipana said.

"Medicine is ultimately about people and caring for people," Dr Wei added.

"An inclusive and diverse workforce better represents the communities we serve, and this representation is known to reduce disparities and improve equitable outcomes."

A significant update has come into force for accessible building design in Australia. From 29 July 2025, Australia’s key standard for building access and mobility is AS 1428.1-2021, replacing the 2009 version…

If you’ve been seeing these spikey rubber things stuck on train station platforms around Sydney, this is what they’re all about! 🤷‍♀️

These are ‘gap fillers’, and over the last 3 years they’ve been rolled at stations with the highest risk of falls through the gap 🕳

You might not know that some older platforms are curved, meaning a simple extension to accommodate various types of trains wouldn’t work, hence… the gap fillers! 👏

The Accessed Under 5s played their debut ‘Big Game’ last Saturday ⚽️ There were goals in all sorts of directions and I couldn’t keep track but pretty sure we didn’t get the win. The team spirit was 👌🏼 and those boys had the best time which is what counts 🙌🏼
