The team of pain specialists, psychologists & exercise physiologists work together to provide patients with comprehensive management plans. In addition to the pain itself, pain normally leads to difficulties in many areas of life. Pain effects fitness, relationships, hobbies, work, and all other aspects of life. Many people with chronic pain struggle with mood and anxiety problems as a result. At NIPM we treat all kinds of pain – and all aspects of living with chronic pain. At NIPM our doctors take a personalised, tailored approach. They evaluate the likely causes of pain and what options there are for reducing pain. They evaluate how pain impacts patient’s lives in terms of home life, social life and work life. We develop easy to understand plans for managing pain. These plans normally include the following kinds of options:

Physical therapy – to help safely improve activity levels and improve fitness with ongoing pain. Psychological strategies – to help people suffer less with pain, and improve quality of life despite pain

Medication optimisation – to reduce side effects and maximize benefit where medications are appropriate for pain treatment. Procedural pain management – to reduce pain without medications. Other options outside the clinic if required such as surgical treatment, rehabilitation treatment, psychiatric treatment, and many others. Your treatment plan will be developed with you in partnership. Your preferences for treatment are focused on and explored. Some patients prefer to learn how to safely exercise more with pain, some patients want to know the exact cause and treat it directly. At NIPM you will be cared for by one of our doctors. You may also see our other specialist practitioners including our nursing, exercise physiology and pain psychology teams. We understand that when coming to visit a Specialist there can be quite a bit of anxiety, which can sometimes be directed towards our dedicated team. As part of our commitment to maintaining a positive atmosphere, we want to reiterate our zero-tolerance policy towards abusive and disrespectful behaviour.

We would like to emphasise the importance of maintaining respect and understanding in all interactions, especially when dealing with our staff. Our team work hard to ensure that every patient is attended to promptly and with the utmost care.

Abusive or disrespectful behaviour not only affects the morale and well-being of our team, but also detracts from the supportive and caring environment we strive to create at NIPM. Every member of our staff deserves to work in a respectful and safe environment.

Whilst we empathise with the frustration caused by appointment wait times or health concerns, it’s crucial to remember that being rude or disrespectful is never appropriate.

MEET | Phil & Mitch

Accredited Exercise Physiologists work with individuals who have a goal of developing strategies and self-efficacy to improve one’s active based approaches. Exercise Physiologists can help people to optimise their function, health status and independence.

Under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Plan, you are able to access rebates through Medicare. You can also receive rebates through Private Health Insurance, dependant on your level of cover.

Established in 2011 by Dr Simon Tame & Dr John Prickett, NIPM had a goal to combine the highest quality pain management treatments within a personalised, humane environment, and to work as an “integrated” team with patients, their family and other practitioners involved in care. Fast forward to 2025, weeks have grown to a team of 4 Pain Specialists, a Psychiatrist, 3 Psychologists, 2 Exercise Physiologists, 3 Registered Nurses and an incredible administrative team supporting both the providers and patients at the clinic providing a holistic approach to pain management.

From the team at NIPM, we would like to thank you all for your continued support through 2024. It has been a fantastic year with a wonderful, dedicated team.

Our office will be taking a short break and will be closed from 2pm on Friday, 20 December 2024 and reopen on Monday, 6 January 2025 at 9am.

Today 3 of our team travelled down to Sydney for the ASA Practice Managers Conference. Whilst these girls were in the city updating their skills and gaining new knowledge, the Charlestown office was in full swing with the team continuing to provide support to our wonderful patients. Education for our team is such an integral component for us to provide the level of care we strive to give to our patients.

A big thank you to all of the team at NIPM for all of the hard work you do, and a big thank you to our patients for putting your trust in our practice and team to support you through your journey.

If you are trying to dial out and are getting a disconnected message, please pop a an area code at the beginning (i.e. 0249238900). Apologies to any and all patients that may have had trouble reaching us this morning!

Telstra says it has fixed an outage that mostly affected mobile phone users in New South Wales and Queensland.
