Today as a proud woman business founder, I got to attend our local Women in Business breakfast, with these 2 legendary women who I am proud to have on my team and work along side day after day. There is Sherelle our Clinical Nurse rocking the pink, who has an infectious laugh, a heart of gold & whom I first met when I was a new grad OT over 20 years ago. Sherelle has been with us for about 6 months now. Then there is the infamous Kate, who has officially been our OT assistant for almost 3 years yet she is so much more than that title, she has become my work wife, my 2nd set of hands & eyes & is the saviour of my sanity. She is a formidable force.

You gals rock I love your work!

I was also excited to reflect this morning, on the fact that I had team members to meet & sit with at this event. As when I first started in business 5 years ago I had to go to these events alone. Yet now I have a whole team who I can share these moments with! ❤️👌💫

Did you know… We have experienced, respectful, enthusiastic & skilled support workers ready to support you now, including 1 gentleman and several lovely ladies? Our gentleman is confident in the gym & offers supported gym & pool based exercise sessions & has a trade background & offers practical life skills sessions focused on car maintenance & mechanical & welding projects, as well as out doors fishing & outdoor sports activities. All of our support workers also offer recreational walks some where your furry friend can come. Skill building sessions focused on self management, home projects, shopping, cooking, dog & equine grooming & care sessions, cognitive games, puzzles, art & craft & more…all tailored to your individual interests & goals.

Because we are a small business you are rostered to get the same support worker each weekday who our principal OT matches you to, based on your goals, personalities and skill mix.

In the last 12-18 months our services have expanded & now include support work with a particular focus on capacity building/ life skill development, recreation & community access. We have 4 part time support workers including 3 ladies and one gentleman. Sessions include cognitive games, fun turn taking games, art and crafts, shopping & cooking, gym work, swimming and going for walks.

The week that was… was such a funny week at Heartland. We had a horse in residence as our nurse Sherelle’s beautiful horse Richard was getting some veterinary treatments, across the road & we took pity on him as he is such a magnificent horse & found this distressing. Anyways it turns out that Richard just loves being close to humans & would stick his head over the side fence to say hello & stand quietly & watch our treatments, admin antics & meetings.

Quite frankly he looked like a cross between Mr Ed & a knight with his fly veil & coat. Here are some of the moments captured.

And that’s a wrap! Merry Xmas from the team at Heartland OT! We greatly appreciate the opportunities you have given us in 2025 & wish you all a joyous, safe & reflective festive season with friends and family. We now have a specialist clinical nurse wound consultant in house to fix boo boos both big or small. We are now healing burns, surgical wounds & sutures, trauma injuries including gravel rash & skin tears, chronic wounds & skin flare ups. We see young children through to the elderly & will continue to treat each patient with dignity & respect. We will also continue to treat oedema & heal venous ulcers & hand injuries. Exciting times… did you know, that we now have not 1, not 2 but 3 OT’s at Heartland OT right here in the heart of Charters Towers at 234 Gill st? All deserving of a casual Friday afternoon Catch up! This dynamic Trio includes Dave who specialises in Adult Mental Health, Hannah who has a background in developmental peadiatrics and Shannon who is our Director and specialises in aged care, psychosocial and clinical OT services.

OT Hannah, Director Shannon, OT Assistant Kate & admin assistant Tiff headed out for the Rural Women’s Ladies Luncheon on Saturday which was a beautiful day raising funds for a good cause supporting Mental Health for rural and remote Australian’s Virtual Psychology service. We enjoyed a lovely lunch, guest speakers and brought a few home made clothes & trinkets from the pop up store holders 💫🌻❤️🤩
