πŸ’» Spend hours on a computer for work or study?

The prevalence of neck pain is higher among office workers than in the general community, with studies suggesting 70% of desk workers report neck pain.

If you're a desk worker, you could be at risk of developing Tech Neck - a growing spinal health concern caused by poor posture and prolonged screen time.

Common symptoms include:
⚠️ Headaches
⚠️ Neck, shoulder, and upper back pain
⚠️ Postural changes and spinal curvature (especially in older adults)

Adjust your thinking: Prevention is the best protection:
βœ… Maintain an upright, relaxed posture
βœ… Take regular movement and stretching breaks
βœ… Set your screen at eye level
βœ… Use an ergonomic chair (knees slightly lower than hips)
βœ… Consider a sit-stand desk to reduce spinal strain

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) – what are they?
A range of inflammatory and degenerative conditions affecting the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, peripheral nerves and supporting blood vessels, WMSDs may be caused by a single workspace event, but commonly result from repeated harmful workspace activities over an extended period of time.

WorkSpace Week aims to reduce the occurrence and impact of WMSDs caused by physical stress, mental stress, repetitive work and poorly set up non-ergonomic workspaces. Chronic neck and back pain, shoulder stiffness and headaches can be linked to modifiable risk factors in Australian workplaces.

This WorkSpace Week (20-26 Oct), adjust your thinking to work well every day! Explore free resources, hints and tips at www.workspaceweek.org.au - because prevention is the best protection!

β€’ 57% - The majority of Australian workers’ compensation claims are for WMSDs (Safe Work Australia) with SafeWork NSW reporting serious WMSD claims requiring one or more weeks absence, averaged almost $65k per claim between 2018-2023.
β€’ Top 4 WMSDs: Low back pain, neck pain, mid-back pain and cervicogenic headaches
