If you're a person who suffers with anxiety you've almost certainly been told that meditation and yoga would be good for you, and in that helpful advice there's an expectation that you can just do it... like waltzing into a yoga class and learning to meditate is simple and easy... 🙄
But I understand the reality that just walking through the door of a yoga studio can be scary and it can become such an obstacle that you end up trying to learn using generic online materials, or not exploring yoga and meditation at all.
Which is a shame because the advice is right, it IS really helpful – for both mental and physical wellbeing.
I know how it feels to be frozen so I hope this helps make it doable for you.
Your first step is to book this course. https://www.relaxyoga.com.au/beginners-yoga-course/
If you scroll through my feed you'll see pictures of me and of the yoga studio – they are there to help you gain a sense of where you're going and what it looks like.
Our front door opens directly to the studio space (there's no reception) which is always set with blue mats as a guide for where students set up.
At your first class you can walk in, roll your mat out on top of one of our blue mats, and sit yourself down on it.
Next to your mat there'll be a form for you to fill out and a handout for you to read so you can get on with that until I come and introduce myself to you, which will be within minutes.
On the first day of the course everyone is new and my first priority is helping everyone feel comfortable.
We'll focus first on movements that help you to feel grounded, stable and balanced, with a reminder that every body is different so you will follow those movements in your own way.
✨ If anxiety has been holding you back, let this be your gentle nudge. You don’t have to be confident, flexible or experienced – just willing to take that first step. I’ll be there to guide you through it, and you might be surprised at how much lighter you feel after your very first class. 💙
