This week, our team came together to celebrate Harmony Week with a shared team lunch! It was a wonderful reminder of the rich cultural diversity that makes our workplace so special.

Last year, a valued team member and Old Boy of Brisbane Grammar School, Sean Forrest, passed away tragically in a skiing accident. It was a shock to all who knew him, and his loss continues to be deeply felt.

Last week, members of our Chermside Day Hospital team had the privilege of attending a special boat naming ceremony at Brisbane Grammar School, held in memory of our much-loved colleague.

Sean was an extraordinary young man whose strength of character, generosity and quiet leadership left a lasting impact on everyone around him. Many of our team formed genuine friendships with Sean, and it was meaningful to stand alongside his school community to honour his memory.

In a moving ceremony on the banks of the Brisbane River, a quad scull boat was officially named in his honour. It was christened by his father, Michael, before being led to the water by the Year 9 crew for its inaugural row.

We remain grateful to Sean’s parents, Michael and Angie, for allowing us to be part of such a special and meaningful tribute.

How to Reduce the Risk of Blood Clots After Surgery

Your health and safety matter. Here are some important steps to help prevent blood clots during your recovery:
🔹 Complete your health history before admission – This helps us identify any previous clots or risk factors early.
🔹 Follow your prevention plan – You may be prescribed compression devices or medication based on your individual needs.
🔹 Move early and often – Gentle movement and leg exercises while sitting or lying down are essential.
🔹 Know the warning signs – Pain, tenderness, or swelling in your legs, shortness of breath, or chest pain should never be ignored. Report these symptoms immediately to your nurse or doctor.

Your discharge paperwork will include any at-home requirements for you and your GP.
