Life gets busy. Health checks get pushed to the bottom of the list. It happens to all of us.

But a comprehensive health check with your GP can pick up things you would never feel coming. Blood pressure. Cholesterol. Blood sugar. Thyroid. Iron.

The patients who come in saying ‘I feel fine, I just wanted to check’ are often the ones we catch things early for.

If it has been a while, book in. No referral needed. Just book an appointment online.

March is Kidney Health Month and it is one of those health areas that rarely gets the attention it deserves until it is too late.

Kidney disease affects around 1.8 million Australians, and most of them do not know. It is a silent condition. No pain and no obvious symptoms in the early stages. By the time you feel something, the damage is often already significant.

The good news? Early detection makes a real difference. A simple blood test and urine test can tell us a lot.

If you have not had your kidneys checked lately, this is your prompt.

Coeliac Awareness Week is the perfect reminder that coeliac disease is one of the most common autoimmune conditions in Australia (and one of the most under diagnosed).

1 in 70 Australians has coeliac disease. Around 80% of them have no idea.

It is not just a gut condition. Fatigue, brain fog, skin issues, low iron, and mood changes can all be signs. Symptoms vary enormously from person to person.

If you have been chasing answers and not getting them, it might be worth asking your GP about coeliac testing. A simple blood test is a good place to start.

We are here when you are ready. Book online now - link in bio.

Heart symptoms don’t always present the way we expect.

Sometimes what feels like anxiety, fatigue or general discomfort can have an underlying medical cause that needs to be properly assessed.

Stories like this are a reminder of how important it is to listen to your body and seek medical advice if something doesn’t feel right.

Your GP plays a key role in looking at the full picture (your symptoms, history and risk factors) to help guide the right investigations and care.

If you’re experiencing ongoing or unexplained symptoms, our team at Platinum Medical Centre in Chermside is here to help.

Former Masterchef contestant Mandy Hall shares her journey from repeated misdiagnosis to discovering a life‑threatening 90% arterial blockage in the latest episode of the Stories from the Heart podcast. Listen to Mandy's full story via the link below, or wherever you listen to podcasts. 🎧

When children are unwell, it can be difficult to know whether to monitor symptoms at home or seek medical advice.

Many common childhood illnesses are mild and self-limiting, but some symptoms may need closer assessment, especially if they persist, worsen, or cause concern.

If your child has ongoing fever, breathing difficulties, dehydration, significant pain, changes in behaviour, or if something just doesn’t feel right, a GP review can help provide clarity and reassurance.

Trusting your instincts as a parent is important. When in doubt, it’s always okay to check in with your GP.

Last week, some of our Platinum Medical Centre GPs attended a CKD Unlocked educational dinner here in Brisbane, connecting with fellow GPs and specialists to share practical insights into chronic kidney disease management.

Dr Anita Sharma also had the opportunity to present and join discussions alongside Nephrologist Dr David Mudge, exploring how collaborative care helps support patients living with CKD in our community.

Ongoing education and professional collaboration help our team stay current with evidence-based approaches, bringing valuable knowledge back to the patients we care for every day.

Last week, Dr Anita Sharma was privileged to be part of the Steering Committee and present at the Cardio-Renal-Metabolic Conference in Sydney, alongside an incredible group of renal, cardiac and metabolic specialists.

These events highlight the important role GPs play in recognising risk early, coordinating care and supporting patients living with complex chronic conditions within the community.

Bringing these insights back into everyday general practice helps ensure our patients at Platinum Medical Centre continue to receive informed, evidence-based care close to home.

Childhood immunisations play an important role in protecting both individual children and the wider community.

With busy schedules and changing routines, it’s not uncommon for vaccinations to be delayed or missed. Catch-up vaccines are available and can help ensure your child remains protected as they grow.

Immunisation schedules are tailored to age and individual health needs, and your GP can review your child’s records, answer questions, and provide guidance on any vaccines that may be due.

If you’re unsure whether your child is up to date, a quick appointment can help clarify next steps and provide peace of mind.
