The Common Good Au

The Common Good Au Proudly supporting The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital. Our research areas are health issues that touch nearly everyone in some way.

The Common Good, an initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, exists to help people live healthier, for longer. Through the power of the collective, we support and facilitate the work of incredible researchers who are dedicated to making breakthroughs in the areas of heart disease, lung disease, mental health and dementia. Whether it be a friend, a family member, or a colleague, we all know someone who is impacted by at least one of these conditions. In turn, that means we all know someone who can benefit from funding research in these areas. By funding research, we can provide hope to those suffering today, and for future generations to come. The impacts of our research ripple right across the nation and the world. We're on a mission to sustain the work of our brilliant researchers so that they can continue to make life-saving and life-changing medical breakthroughs. And we want you to join us. Research is a long game, so we need to support and fund as many hours as possible to ensure no stone is left unturned in any of our research areas. Every hour of research gets us one step closer to a medical breakthrough. We are also incredibly proud to support hospital innovation and patient care initiatives at both The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.

🚴‍♂️ Chain Reaction Challenge 2026 complete 🚴‍♂️

Seven days. 1,000km. One EPIC ride for sick and injured kids.

The Chain Reaction Challenge Brisbane riders have completed their incredible ride across New Zealand's North Island and from all of us at The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation—a heart felt thank you.

To every one of the 26 riders who showed up, pushed through, and rallied their networks to give so generously—your efforts will make a real difference for the children and families supported through the Child Life Therapy program at The Prince Charles Hospital.

To the corporate teams from Limitless Developments Hutchinson Builders Simonds Homes PROJX Australia—thank you for standing behind your riders and backing this journey.

We are incredibly grateful for the professional operation of the Chain Reaction Challenge crew in New Zealand, who supported all teams on the ground. It was tough, gruelling 10–13-hour days with little rest, but the riders and support crew showed up every day to get the job done.

While the Brisbane 2026 ride is now complete, you can still support their fundraising to help make a difference for sick and injured kids when they need it most.

Tour de Brisbane DOUBLE DOLLAR DAY is coming 🚴‍♂️🔥

📅 Thursday, 2 April
💥 Double the donation = double the impact
💖 Together, we’re aiming to raise $20K in one day.

Thursday 2 April marks one of the biggest days on the calendar in the lead-up to this year's Tour de Brisbane—when every donation goes twice as far.

As the Tour’s key charity partner, every dollar raised for The Common Good will be doubled—up to $10K—thanks to our generous friends at Bondi Chai.

Giving back has always been important to Bondi Chai co-founders Martin and Melissa. For Melissa, it’s deeply personal—her mum spent six weeks in intensive care at The Prince Charles Hospital after collapsing at work at Brisbane Airport 22 years ago.

If you’re already FUND-RIDING for The Common Good, thank you! Thursday is the day to take your fundraising to the next level— so mark the date, spread the word and share your fundraising page far and wide.

To our incredible community, don’t forget to get behind the 2026 Tour de Brisbane FUND-RIDERS and support their efforts—donate this Thursday and double your impact.

Thank you Bondi Chai for amplifying our community’s generosity and supporting transplant research to help give more people a second chance at life.🙌

💜Francis’ story inspires every kilometre🚴‍♂️

Francis is 5, a twin, and was born with a congenital heart condition. Multiple surgeries and hospital visits had left him feeling anxious—even routine medical appointments could be overwhelming.

The family were offered the support of a Child Life Therapist at The Prince Charles Hospital, and everything changed.

“The extra 15 minutes they spent with him made a world of difference. During the procedure, the entire medical team sang the ABC song, filling the room with laughter. Their efforts turned what could have been traumatic into a positive experience for Francis and our family.” — Xaviera, Francis’ mum.

This is the difference Child Life Therapy makes—and why the Chain Reaction Challenge riders are taking on 1,000 km+ in 7 days, cycling across the North Island of New Zealand.

Day 5 is now complete and the team of 26 riders are 770 km down with just over 200 km to go. Stage 5 was wet, cold, and windy—but these riders are tough, pushing through with purpose, raising vital funds for the Child Life Therapy program to support kids like Francis.

💜 Story 8 | 40 Stories for 40 Years
Kate Phillips-Taylor: Heart and Double Lung Transplant Recipient

Kate has spent her life defying the odds.

She was born with a congenital heart condition and later diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. At just 10 months of age, Kate underwent open-heart surgery at The Prince Charles Hospital.

That was in 1986.

“Kate was still in the ICU. And, one Friday night, her cardiologist and her surgeon, who's now Professor David McGiffin, came and had a chat with my ex-husband and I,” says Kate’s mum, Liz.

“I can remember him saying, ‘Look, they're not doing lung transplants yet. But who knows? In five years, they might.’"

"I just always remember that I ... hung on to that hope," she explains.

The first lung transplant in Queensland happened in 1996.

For 17 more years, ongoing research, evolving treatments and dedicated patient care helped Kate until, at the age of 27, in 2013, she received the gift of a life-saving heart and double lung transplant.

Today, Kate is living a life she never thought possible, competing in Ironman events, representing Australia at the World Transplant Games, and embracing experiences she once could only dream of.

Her journey is a powerful testament to the impact of research.

Meet Adam 👋

Adam is the Volunteer Coordinator for The Common Good at Caboolture Hospital, where he has been supporting the program since January 2025.

He coordinates a team of almost 60 local volunteers, supporting various departments across the hospital as well as providing a friendly face at the main entry and helping visitors find their way around.

“I enjoy working for an organisation that genuinely cares about the community. Being part of a team that brings different skills together to make a difference is what I value most.”

Adam says Charlies Village in the Cognitive and Assessment Management Unit at The Prince Charles Hospital is a standout project for him because it reflects the real difference The Common Good and its generous supporters can make for patients with dementia and their families. He is excited to see a similar initiative come to life for Caboolture Hospital in the not-too-distant future.

Adam also spends one day a week at the Foundation's office at The Prince Charles Hospital, where he connects with Charlie's Angels volunteers and supports the broader volunteer community.

Outside of work, Adam enjoys getting out and exploring local spots, including craft breweries.

We’re so proud to have Adam as part of our team of good people, doing good things to help people live healthier for longer.

🚵‍♂️Stage 2 of the Chain Reaction Challenge across New Zealand’s North Island is underway — and the challenge just levelled up.

Elevation is up 40%, and today the riders are covering more than 150 km… again.

They even rode past Hobbiton… but there was no sightseeing. Heads down, focused, pushing to reach Rotorua by sundown.

This is where it gets tough: legs burn, fatigue hits — and the reason they ride comes into focus: supporting the Child Life Therapy program at The Prince Charles Hospital, helping young patients and their families feel safe, calm, and in control when it matters most.

Our Story

The Common Good is people powering medical discoveries.

The Common Good is an initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation established in 1986 under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, to inspire a generous community to fund life-saving and life-changing health research that tackles Australia’s most significant chronic diseases.

Last year we provided over $5 million in grants for innovative and sustainable medical research, helping devoted researchers to pursue smart research without having to spend the majority of their time writing annual research grants or worry that their work won't be followed through. Our aim is to continue to provide more than $5 million every year to stoke innovation, with the help of people like you.

When you join The Common Good, you’re joining a movement; and when you support a particular area of research, you’re joining a team of researchers, donors, volunteers, partners and everyday people who all care about finding a breakthrough just as much as you do.
