Yes, nausea in early pregnancy is common, but the severity can be influenced by nutrition and blood sugar. Acupuncture may also be the new best friend that you didn't know you needed! 💕

Tips for reducing severity:

SUPPLEMENT WITH B6 & GINGER
👍Vitamin B6 supports neurotransmitter function involved in nausea.
👍Ginger helps with gastric emptying and GI comfort.

EAT REGULARLY
Long gaps between meals can worsen symptoms from:
👎Low blood sugar
👎Increased stomach acid
👎Hormonal fluctuations

PRIORITISE PROTEIN
Low protein intake is associated with:
👎Increased nausea
👎Blood sugar crashes
👎Gagging between meals
(yes, drinking protein counts)

NEVER EAT CARBS ALONE
Pairing carbs with protein means steadier blood sugar. Try:
✔️Toast & nut butter
✔️Crackers & cheese
✔️Fruit & yoghurt

TRY ACUPUNCTURE
A 2021 review that looked at 16 studies involving more than 1,000 expecting women with hyperemesis gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy) found that acupuncture was significantly more effective than standard treatments including medication. Acupuncture relieved nausea and vomiting and increased the amount of food women were able to eat. It also decreased length of hospitalizations and lowered rates of miscarriage.

It is World Breastfeeding Week, and the theme is 'Prioritise Breastfeeding: create sustainable support systems'.

The benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby are abundant. Women are more likely to thrive in the postpartum period, and successfully breastfeed, with support, nourishment and rest.

In Chinese Medicine, lactation requires adequate Qi (energy) and Blood, both of which are depleted in pregnancy and childbirth. The Qi is responsible for transforming the Blood into breastmilk and also for the smooth flow of the milk through the ducts. This is why the postpartum period is such a crucial time for nourishment with nutritious food and fluids, as well as adequate rest.

All of the Flourish in Natal products have been created with ingredients, traditionally used, to replenish Qi and Blood in Chinese Medicine:

✨️Jujube (Red Dates)
✨️Goji Berries
✨️Warming Spices
✨️Beetroot
✨️Black Sesame
✨️Bone Broth

All handmade with love, by me, supporting one new mum at a time ❤️

Red Dates (Jujube)

Less known in the West, these antioxidant rich little gems have a long history in Asian culture and traditional medicine.

They are rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, in particular high in vitamin C, which gives them amazing antioxidant properties. They also contain potassium, which plays a vital role in electrolyte balance.

They feature heavily in traditional postpartum diets and their benefits in Traditional Chinese Medicine are:

⭐️Nourishing Blood and Tonifying Qi (which is depleted in pregnancy and childbirth)
🌟Tonifying the Spleen (aiding digestion)
🌟Inducing Calmness
