The team at Chinchilla Medical Practice is getting fuzzy for a great cause! This December, we’re supporting Decembeard to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in Australia, but it's highly treatable if detected early.

Why the Beard?
Growing a beard (or rocking a fake one!) is a fun way to start an important conversation about your health and encourage others to get checked.

Key Facts You Need to Know:
Symptoms: Look out for persistent changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss.

Screening: If you are 50 years or older, you should be participating in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (a free home test kit is mailed to eligible Australians). Don't ignore it—it could save your life!

All Ages: While more common in older adults, bowel cancer can affect anyone. If you have concerns, especially a family history, talk to your GP.

What You Can Do:
Book a Check-up: If you have any concerns or are due for your screening test ,make an appointment online with one of our GPs.

Spread the Word: Share this post and encourage your friends and family to learn the symptoms.

Support Decembeard: If you're growing a beard, let us know!

Let's make some noise (and grow some magnificent facial hair!) for this vital cause.

Today, December 5th, we pause to celebrate the incredible, selfless work of volunteers around the world. These are the people who dedicate their time, energy, and hearts to making our communities stronger, brighter, and more resilient.

This year's theme is "Every Contribution Matters," and it’s a powerful reminder that whether you volunteer an hour a week or help out at a single event, your effort creates a ripple effect of positive change.

International Volunteer Day recognizes volunteers worldwide and all they do in making peace and sustainable development a reality.

😂 That Sweet Tooth is Watching You...
It's Sugar Awareness Week, and let’s be honest, we all have that one coworker/family member (or maybe it's you!) whose snack drawer is basically a diabetic risk factor.

This week, we're doing a little friendly intervention!

Fact: The average Aussie consumes way too much sugar, often from "sneaky" sources like healthy fruit juices, sauces, and those jumbo muffins.

The Joke: We know quitting is hard. Your morning coffee with three sugars probably deserves a GP referral on its own.

The Serious Part: Excess sugar isn't just a waistline issue; it contributes to serious conditions like Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Don't let the sugar dragon win! Start small: swap one soft drink for water, or swap that sugary cereal for oats. Your GP at Chinchilla Medical Practice is here to help you ditch the sweet addiction, not just treat the consequences!

Come see us if you need help creating a sugar swap plan. We promise we won't confiscate your emergency chocolate stash... yet. 😉

Breakfast provides us a great opportunity to start our day consuming a variety of essential nutrients, but unfortunately, commercial breakfasts are often high in sugar. Cereals, pancakes, pastries, rice dishes, porridges, jams, yogurts, coffee, tea and milk drinks – the food industry add huge amou...

🔵 World Diabetes Day: Know Your Risk 🔵

Today, November 14th, is World Diabetes Day—a critical reminder for our community here in Chinchilla to focus on diabetes awareness, prevention, and management.

Globally, diabetes is on the rise, and in our region, it’s vital that we are proactive about our health.

The Key Action: Know Your Risk
Type 1 Diabetes cannot be prevented, but early diagnosis is crucial for starting treatment.

Type 2 Diabetes is largely preventable! Getting an early risk assessment gives you the power to make lifestyle changes that can delay or prevent the condition entirely.

If you have risk factors (like a family history, or are overweight), please don't wait for symptoms to appear.

We are here to help!
Book an appointment at Chinchilla Medical Practice for a quick and confidential Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment and a general health check.

A simple conversation with one of our GPs is the first step toward a healthier future.

Let's talk about well-being for a better diabetes life. Diabetes and well-being is the theme for World Diabetes Day 2024-26.

Healthcare shouldn’t be rushed. Good healthcare takes time. We want to make sure your GP has the space to listen, understand your needs, and provide thorough care.
Because Medicare rebates don’t cover the full cost of longer consultations, a fee applies to many appointments.

🌬️ November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🌬️

Here at Chinchilla Medical Practice, we are using this month to shine a light on lung cancer—the leading cause of cancer death in Australia. This is a crucial topic for our community, and we want to help break down the stigma and focus on early action.

Important Facts to Know:
It Affects Anyone: While smoking is the biggest risk factor, lung cancer can affect anyone with lungs, including non-smokers. Other factors include environmental exposures (like diesel fumes, radon, or asbestos) and family history.

Early Detection is Key: Lung cancer is treatable, and early detection significantly improves outcomes. A national lung cancer screening program is now available for those most at risk.

What You Can Do Today:
Know the Signs: Be aware of symptoms like a new cough that won't go away, breathlessness, persistent chest pain, or coughing up blood.

Quit Smoking: If you smoke, this is the most effective step you can take to protect your health. Talk to our GPs about developing a supportive quit plan. We are here to help, not judge.

Book an Appointment: If you have concerns about your symptoms or think you may be eligible for the National Lung Cancer Screening Program, please book a consultation with one of our doctors.

Let's look out for our own lung health and for our mates in the Chinchilla community.

Call Chinchilla Medical Practice today on [Insert Phone Number Here] to discuss your lung health.

Ready to see some questionable facial hair? 🥸

It's almost October 31st, which means **Movember** is officially around the corner! This is your 24-hour warning to enjoy your clean-shaven look because starting November 1st, we're all going to look like 70s detectives or awkward teenagers attempting a mustache for the first time. The *Mo Bros* at Chinchilla Medical Practice are shaving down and strapping in for a month of itchy upper lips, bad angles, and bravely raising awareness for **men’s health**—including mental health and prostate cancer. Wish us luck (and maybe send some beard oil).

P.S. To all our partners: We apologize in advance for the sprouts. It’s for a good cause! 😂

Happy Birthday, Dr. Gazele! 🥳
Today is the day we celebrate our wonderful Dr. Waseem Gazele!

Doctor’s orders for the day: Absolutely NO diagnosing anyone (unless the diagnosis is a severe cake deficiency), NO listening to any symptoms, and YES to replacing the stethoscope with a party hat.

We're incredibly lucky to have a GP who is as knowledgeable as he is caring. Enjoy your birthday—you’ve officially earned a day off from saving lives!

Wishing you a prescription for pure joy from all of us at Chinchilla Medical Practice!
