✨The Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE)

This is a personal way to gauge how intense your exercise feels, based on your own sense of effort.

It’s usually scored on a scale from 1–10 (or 6–20 on the Borg scale) and takes into account factors like heart rate, breathing, and muscle fatigue. This makes it a practical method for adjusting workout intensity without needing any devices.

👏Impact Loading👏

An easily forgotten but very important part of strength training to reduce osteopenia, improve tendon elasticity and overall muscle conditioning.
Impact improves Bone Density by telling the brain to increase the thickness and mineral density of the hardest outer layer of the bone. This is a crucial part of managing degenerative conditions including osteopenia and osteoporosis.

Here we have some examples of how we can incorporate impact loading in a safe, progressive exercise plan ✨

⭐️ Running on the spot
⭐️ Sit to stands: progress with a vertical jump to increase impact through the lower limbs
⭐️Stomping marches: must stomp hard into ground for impact
⭐️ Vertical Jumps
⭐️Step offs: stepping (not jumping) from a small height landing on both leg
⭐️ Tall Shorts
⭐️ Lateral bounds

✨Scooters on the reformer ✨
Placing the sole of your foot up into the shoulder pad and pushing the bad away with one leg.
⭐️This can be done with different levels of assistance using none, one or both hands on the foot bar.
Adding a hip hinge while holding the bed steady is a great way to work different muscles around the hip which work to stabilise our whole body.
⭐️ if mobility is a problem for you, adding a Pilates block under the knee can add stability and height if your bed is particularly low.

✨Lower back pain refers to soreness, stiffness, or discomfort in the region between the ribs and the hips. It occurs when the muscles, joints, spinal discs, or nerves in this area become strained, irritated, or damaged.

The lower back plays a major role in supporting body weight and allowing movement such as bending, twisting, and maintaining balance. Because it is used constantly, this area is especially prone to stress and injury.

Reach out to our Exercise Physiology team for a tailored program to assist your lower back journey.
