*** S*x Postnatally***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your weekend was a good one 😁 We wanted to continue on with our postnatal series and address the "taboo" topic of S*x in the postnatal period 💚
So what things do we have to consider in the postnatal period?
💚 In*******se should NOT occur before 6 weeks due to tissue healing, whether or not you had a vaginal or caesarean birth. Remember the pelvic floor has had pressure on it for the last 9 months 😅
💚Changes in hormones- your oestrogen is still at lower levels following birth and remains low if breastfeeding. Why is this important? Due to the role oestrogen plays in tissue health, lubrication and arousal for women
💚Any injury recovery including tears, episiotomies and caesareans have scar tissue and you need adequate recovery around 6-12 weeks. This can in turn cause restricted tissue if not treated and lead to pain with in*******se.
💚Fatigue which in turn can lead to a lower arousal and desire. You are more time poor postally and add in the factors above, prioritising in*******se for women tends to be lower
💚 Any pre-existing history of pelvic pain has a strong indicator of issues with in*******se in the postnatal period
So how can Pelvic Health Physio's help you?
We do a thorough assessment of your pelvic floor, bladder, bowel, exercise, s*xual health history and combine this with your current pelvic floor health. From this assessment we create a individualised plan to help you get back on track in the bedroom 😉
So if this is something that has been bothering you, please see this as a sign there is plenty we can do to help 😍
Cheers Katie & The Bumpity Bump Team xx
