***Return to running postnatally***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week has been a good one!! We still can't believe we are in November and the year is nearly at a close 🙃

So we wanted to round out our postnatal series with our Return to running/higher intensity exercise chapter and what the evidence suggests is a NON negotiable 🥰🙌

SO what is the advised check list?
💚 Pelvic Health assessment- make sure pelvic floor function is adequate- looking at all pelvic organs, pelvic floor-strength, timing, endurance and coordination
💚Musculoskeletal screen- ensure the joints are ready to go, check lower limb and upper limb strength and tummy separation check
💚Screening exercises- loading exercises of the lower limb, functional endurance, strength of upper, middle and lower body, plyometric loading and balance exercises
We are passionate about ensuring all women return to the form of exercise they enjoy and BETTER than before 🥰

We follow this guidelines and tailor all exercise to our patients to get you back to what you LOVE but safely 🥰

We hope to see you in clinic soon to get you exercising postnatally again 😍🥰

***Baby News***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your weekend was good one 🥰 We are so excited to say we have had some beautiful baby news come in from one of our Preggo Aqua mums Melissa 🙌

"Hi There!

I’ve been attending the Wed Aqua Physio sessions with Inge, and I wanted to share that our baby has now arrived!

I finished work last Monday, and contractions started at 8pm Monday night 🤣. They increased to 10 mins apart Tuesday night, and finally got to 3/5 mins apart 3.30pm Wednesday. Made it to the Family Birth Centre by 4.30pm and she popped out in the shower at 6.25pm (5 mins before class was due to start 🤣), and (after stitching me back together) we were back home by 1am.

Born at 40+1, please meet little miss Leni River ❤️.

Thank you for the great pregnancy physio aqua classes, it must be a tight race for the chicken at the moment!!
Cheers Melissa"

What fantastic news 😍 We are so happy for you and your family, we hope you are soaking up those precious baby snuggles and we can't wait to have you join us in our postnatal classes 💚

If you have any baby news you would like us to share, please email info@bumpitybunp.com.au

***Did you know??***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week has been a goody!!
We thought today was a good day to highlight the fact that postnatal care dwindles for mums in comparison to pregnancy 😩🙃

What do we mean by this?
It is known that throughout pregnancy you will have an average of 7- 10 appointments but in the postnatal period it is generally ONLY 1 🤯

This seems crazy when new mums need support with feeding, mental health, recovery from birth etc...

So we want to remind everyone why we recommend postnatal visits, because we do think your recovery is important and it does take a team 💚

We help to ensure all pelvic floor needs are met, any musculoskeletal or breast concerns are seen to and get you back into appropriate exercise for where you are in your journey 🙌

So if you haven't had a postnatal check in, we highly recommend it!! We are here to look after YOU 🥰

*** S*x Postnatally***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your weekend was a good one 😁 We wanted to continue on with our postnatal series and address the "taboo" topic of S*x in the postnatal period 💚

So what things do we have to consider in the postnatal period?

💚 In*******se should NOT occur before 6 weeks due to tissue healing, whether or not you had a vaginal or caesarean birth. Remember the pelvic floor has had pressure on it for the last 9 months 😅
💚Changes in hormones- your oestrogen is still at lower levels following birth and remains low if breastfeeding. Why is this important? Due to the role oestrogen plays in tissue health, lubrication and arousal for women
💚Any injury recovery including tears, episiotomies and caesareans have scar tissue and you need adequate recovery around 6-12 weeks. This can in turn cause restricted tissue if not treated and lead to pain with in*******se.
💚Fatigue which in turn can lead to a lower arousal and desire. You are more time poor postally and add in the factors above, prioritising in*******se for women tends to be lower
💚 Any pre-existing history of pelvic pain has a strong indicator of issues with in*******se in the postnatal period

So how can Pelvic Health Physio's help you?
We do a thorough assessment of your pelvic floor, bladder, bowel, exercise, s*xual health history and combine this with your current pelvic floor health. From this assessment we create a individualised plan to help you get back on track in the bedroom 😉

So if this is something that has been bothering you, please see this as a sign there is plenty we can do to help 😍

***Postnatal Self Love***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week has been a good one! We wanted to round this week out with some self love as we think "mums" need a bit more, they put everyone ahead of themselves, so let's share the love 😍💚

"This is your reminder that one day you will be glad you didn't give up on yourself" 🥰

Despite the hard times, the times you wanted to give up, the times it all seemed too much or you didn't have the energy...YOU didn't 🙌

We know it's easy to be our harshest critic but the truth is... WE are doing the best we can and we deserve some praise 🙌🥰

Prioritise that sleep in you wanted or that walk by yourself or the 5 mins of stretching that you keep putting off!!

So go into this weekend knowing, we see YOU and we acknowledge YOU 😍🙌

***Postnatal Periods***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, hope your Monday is starting off well 🥰

We wanted to continue on the postpartum journey and run through postpartum periods today 😉This is a topic we often get asked about in the clinic!
So what do we know about periods postnatally?

You will generally be bleeding post birth for roughly 6 weeks. Some people are shorter and some slightly longer. This bleed is known as lochia, it should continually get lighter over time but can be a bit heavier for some. Some people will find they bleed at a certain rate then it lightens... then a week later the bleed recommences. This CAN happen depending on if the uterus has fully shed it's lining 😉
Periods🩸

They can return as soon as 6 weeks postnatally if not breastfeeding but can also be absent for around 6-9 months. If you exclusively breastfeed, your periods generally take longer to return to normal.

Periods can therefore return if you STOP breastfeeding, start combine feeding or drop feeds (particularly overnight feeds- this is when prolactin is made the most 😉)

Periods for everyone will differ postpartum. Some will return to their normal cycle, some will be heavier, some are more painful or more clotty, others may be more irregular. It depends on the size of your uterus but if symptoms dont settle after a few cycles, your GP should be consulted.

From a contraception point of view you are therefore ABLE to conceive from as early as 3 weeks postpartum, even if you don't get your period back!! So important to consider contraception before the return of s*xual in*******se 🙌
We hope you find this as fascinating as we did 😍 Thanks to the NHS website for some of the info presented 😉

***Postnatal Musculoskeletal Pain***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week has been a good one! It is definitely flying past 😩 Today we wanted to go through some common things we go through in the postnatal period.

Musculoskeletal pain is really common in the postnatal period. It is something we address regularly in the clinic.

Why do these pains occur?
💚A new baby that take up a lot of your time... less self care such as stretching and regular exercise 😅
💚Changes to the musculoskeletal system occur in pregnancy and things take time to adjust postnatally
💚 Hormonal changes affect soft tissues, ligaments and muscles. These can take months to adjust
💚You have probably noticed as well in a sleep deprived state, that you pay less attention to your posture
💚Add in the repetitive nature of the things you are doing- feeding, playing on the floor, putting baby in and our of cots etc...

Putting it all together and it becomes really common for ladies in the postnatal period to get aches and pains 🥴. So if you are experiencing this, we can help treat you and get you back on the rehab pathway so you can enjoy the time with your little ones 😍
Don't leave it any longer, take this as your sign to put YOU first 😉🙌

***Breast care for Postnatal Breasts***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope you all had a great weekend 🥰 Today we wanted to continue on with our postnatal series and talk about how we can treat breasts in the postnatal period 🙌

So how can we help your breasts postnatally?
We offer therapeutic ultrasound and laser to help treat multiple conditions of the breast. Therapeutic ultrasound is great for engorgement, blocked ducts and mastitis- helping to reduce inflammation and get the breast to empty. Therapeutic laser is used to treat damaged ni***es- cracked, bleeding, blistered.

It is a painless and effective treatment for the breasts and dependent on the severity will depend on the number of treatments.

So please know we can help if you have having breast troubles in the postnatal period, don't leave it, let us help you 😍

***Menopause Awareness Month***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hopw your Monday is going well 👐 We wanted to jump on today and raise some awareness around menopause 👐

It is a process that occurs over a 5 to 10 year period for most women and known as "the change of life"

It signifies then end of menstrual cycles, reduction in production of s*xual hormone and being fertile to produce a pregnancy 🫣

Some women are lucky and get through it quite well. Other unfortunately can have significant symptoms such as sleep distrubances, loss of muscle bulk (v***a included), hot flushes etc...

So please know Pelvic Health physio's are here to help in this time. We can help optimise the pelvic floor and reduce any other associated symptoms 👐

So spread the word and raise some awareness 😉

***Postnatal Considerations***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope you are well 😉 Today we wanted to continue on with our postnatal series and go through some things to consider before reaching the postnatal stage 🙌
So what things do we think you need to consider?
💚Checking in with a lactation consultant and learning all about feeding- especially if you plan to breastfeed, it is not easy and can be really stressful
💚Know you bladder and bowel norms for postnatal- there is generally things the hospital need to check before you can leave
💚How basic wound healing and strategies to promote this- this is something we can go through
💚Food prep- if you can get a few easy meals ready so you don't have to think, uber eats vouchers are also great gifts 😍
💚Understand the guidelines for the first 6 weeks- things to focus on to optimise your recovery
But most importantly, soak up those baby snuggles and precious moments in the first few weeks postpartum 😍🥰 Time flies and you just want to soak it in!
Do you have any tips for the postnatal period? Leave us a comment below!!
