Established in 2018.

With a combined 35 years of training clients, founders Sam, Kyle and Rhys created Functional AF so that so motivated individuals can achieve their health and fitness goals through our 3 Fundamentals being Lifestyle, Nutrition and Training. Everyone who joins the team will be delivered a professional level of service and become part of a strong and powerful community dedicated to having all achieve their goals. We take this moment to honour all the brave men and women who fought for our country. We also want to recognise two of our coaches .bov86 & .af for the time they served and continue to serve in the Australian Army!

SHOUTOUT TO A COUPLE OF OUR SUPER-DADS 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♂️

Brendon: 20kg down, sleeping better, moving more (40,000 steps a week 👀), reducing reliance on meds and closing in on a 30kg goal.

Mark: 9kg down, 70+ cm off his body, went from struggling through workouts to running 12km and smashing a 30 min 5K.

Different journeys, same mindset: Show up. Stay consistent. CHANGE YOUR LIFE

When Deb told us she wanted to “focus on eating better and lose a few kilos.”

She meant it. 💪

In just 5 months, she’s dropped over 30cm — and it shows not just in the transformation photo, but in her consistency, resilience and mindset.

Was it perfect? Not at all.

There were long days from her full-time job.
There were missed sessions.
There were moments she felt completely exhausted.

But here’s what Deb did right:

➡️ She didn’t quit
➡️ She kept showing up (even imperfectly)
➡️ She trusted the process

And now? The results speak for themselves.

3 months in, 3 events down, 1 amazing team 🏅

Our third event of the year brought the energy - taking on the Scarborough Beach obstacle course with an absolute crew of legends 💪

At the heart of what we do is more than just training. It’s about building a community where people show up for each other celebrate the wins (big and small) and push beyond what they thought they were capable of. This is where friendships are built confidence grows and goals start to feel a whole lot more achievable.

We’ve got something planned every single month this year whether it’s a strength-based challenge an obstacle course or just a fun social catch-up. Because progress isn’t just about results in the gym… it’s about the people you surround yourself with and experiences you have along the way.

“I went from being nervous about going to the gym to actually looking forward to it.” 💪

Lauren’s a full-time mum and full-time worker and now she’s full-time confident in the gym.

She’s 10kg down, stronger than ever and gone from needing the chiropractor weekly to barely going at all!

For Lauren she found training to be the easy part, the real difference came when we dialled in on how she was fuelling her body - sustainable nutrition that fit her life (and including the foods she loves to eat) ✅

For a woman who once avoided the gym and struggled with confidence it’s amazing to see her now training on her own, chasing PBs and backing herself every week 🤝
