☀️ Summer Safety in QLD ☀️
QLD summers are full of sunshine, outdoor fun, and plenty of outdoor activities — but they also bring heat, strong UV, and sudden storms. To keep yourself and your participants safe, here are some essential tips to stay sun-smart and storm-ready this season.
🌊 Stay Hydrated
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Encourage participants to stay hydrated and keep water accessible during outdoor activities.
🧴 Sun Protection
• Slip on lightweight, breathable clothing.
• Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours.
• Slap on a wide-brimmed hat.
• Seek shade during peak UV hours (10am–3pm).
• Slide on sunglasses for eye protection.
• Ensure participants are also sun-protected with clothing, hats, and sunscreen.
🕒 Plan Ahead
• Schedule outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day.
• Choose shaded areas for walks and recreation.
• Keep food and drinks cool in a cooler bag.
• Avoid dark clothing that absorbs heat.
⛈️ Storm Safety
• Keep an eye on weather forecasts and warnings.
• Secure outdoor items and move participants indoors if storms approach.
• Never drive through floodwaters — plan alternate routes.
• Have an emergency kit ready (torch, batteries, charged phone).
🌿 Nature Awareness
• Watch out for snakes and insects while outdoors.
• Use insect repellent and check participants for bites.
• Take care near tall grass or water.
🤝 Look Out for Each Other
• Regularly check on participants and colleagues to make sure they’re hydrated and comfortable.
• Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
• Know the signs of heat stress — dizziness, nausea, fatigue — and act quickly.
Enjoy a safe, fun, and sun-smart summer while keeping yourself and your participants protected! 🌞
