WHO touched my MEDICATION?
You know those moments when you think, “Surely this can’t be happening” — but it is?
Recently, I met with a participant who takes CONTROLLED MEDICATION.
Support workers administer it daily... yet they DON’T RECORD it anywhere.
When I asked why, the answer left me speechless:
“We’re told not to sign anything medication-related if we’re not trained.”
What?? So instead of fixing the training gap, they just skip the record-keeping?
No Documentation. NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
And to make it worse — the participant’s shift notes weren’t being completed regularly either.
This is a high-intensity disability support client.
Where is the CARE?
The care to TRAIN staff properly.
The care to do things right the first time.
The care to ensure transparency and SAFETY for the person at the centre of it all.
This isn’t just about medication — it’s about RESPONSIBILITY.
When providers forget that, participants pay the price.
We can do better. We must do better.
💬 Let’s start sharing how things should be done:
- Train staff to administer medication
- Right patient, Right drug, Right dose, Right time, Right route, Right reason, and Right documentation
