We all like to know what’s coming our way so we can prepare. Unfortunately, life rarely works that way.

Not knowing what lies ahead or the outcome of a decision can be really uncomfortable for some people.

So, how do we handle uncertainty without letting it overwhelm us?

Our latest blog deals with the topic of coping with uncertainty, why it causes us discomfort and how to navigate this feeling.

There’s something about not knowing that rattles us. We like to know what’s coming our way so we can prepare. How do we handle uncertainty?

“Are you comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel?”

There's a good chance that you've caught yourself "doom scrolling" on social media at some point. Endlessly scrolling through Instagram or Tik Tok, not really consciously engaging in the posts or videos. But in the background, your brain is working overtime.

Comparing ourselves to others is a deeply ingrained human reaction, and it has roots in our evolutionary past to keep us safe. But our "village" looks very different in today's modern, fast paced world, by comparison to our ancestors and this helpful strategy may no longer be as useful, and in fact at times comparing ourselves to others can be harmful to our mental health.

This blog examines why we instinctively compare ourselves to others and how to manage that comparison in a more helpful manner.

Our brains are wired for survival, and comparison is one way we gather information to feel safe.

Ever hear that little voice in the back of your mind casting doubt?
That's the echo of self-limiting beliefs—those invisible shackles that constrain our potential and dim our happiness. They are the unspoken rules we've written for ourselves, often based on past experiences, fears, and external expectations.

But why do these beliefs have such a powerful hold? And more importantly, how can we break free? 🤔

🔗 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒔
Self-limiting beliefs are like a script that quietly runs in the background of our lives, telling us what we can or cannot do, what we deserve or don’t deserve. They can manifest in thoughts like "I'm not good enough," "I can't handle this," or "I shouldn't try something new."

Understanding these barriers is the first crucial step towards dismantling them. Over the next series of posts we’ll explore the origins of self-limiting beliefs, their impact on our daily lives, and, most importantly, practical strategies to overcome them and reclaim your life's narrative.

This quote was initially about Grit, in Angela Duckworth's book, talking about the hours and hours of work that goes behind becoming good at something.
But it also applies to how we perceive others and the negative impact that can have when we compare ourselves to others, especially on social media.
Our brain constantly compares our self to others - this was a useful survival strategy thousands of years ago when staying part of the group meant staying alive.
It's not so useful now, especially with the advent of social media and the hundreds of comparisons we unconsciously make as we scroll.
The best comparison is yourself. Are you better today than you were yesterday or last week? Are you putting in the effort to make improvement, whatever that might look like?
If we focus on the outcome (the highlight reel) instead of the process, we can become despondent and give up. Focusing on the process, allows us to notice the improvement and improve our sense of wellbeing.
