TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacy on Clyde has raised more than $6,000 for Ovarian Cancer Australia after hosting its annual Morning Tea on Wednesday 18 February.

More than 70 community members attended the event, alongside Cassandra Fernando MP Federal Member for Holt who joined the pharmacy team to help highlight the importance of ovarian cancer awareness.

Co-proprietor Carolyn Wynen said the result reflected the generosity of the local community.
“Every donation, every conversation, and every show of support helps. We are proud to raise over $6,000 for Ovarian Cancer Australia and to stand with everyone impacted by ovarian cancer,” she said.

Ms Wynen said the morning tea was not only about fundraising, but also about education and connection.

“Ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect early, which is why awareness matters. If this event encourages people to learn the symptoms, talk with a loved one, or see their GP when something does not feel right, then we have achieved something important,” she said.
Ovarian Cancer Australia notes there is currently no early detection test, and symptoms can be vague. Residents are encouraged to see their GP if symptoms such as persistent bloating, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly, or frequent urination continue.

Over $6,000 raised for Ovarian Cancer Australia!

Thanks to our fantastic local community we raised over $6,000 from our annual morning tea event, our 10th Anniversary at TerryWhiteChemmart Clyde supporting a great cause.

Together we set a new record!

We also had a wonderful morning of music (thanks to our fantastic entertainment from Simone and Samantha who had us all singing along and a few dancing too!)

Thank you to our special guests and speakers Sally-Ann and Cassandra Fernando MP sharing their passion for this important cause and for Sally-Ann, her lived experience.

Ovarian cancer is often called a "silent killer" because it is frequently diagnosed only at an advanced stage due to vague, easily overlooked symptoms and the lack of an effective early screening test.

Common warning signs - often mistaken for minor gastrointestinal issues - include persistent abdominal bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, feeling full quickly, and frequent urination.

We welcome the Victorian Government’s announcement that GPs who undertake accredited training will be able to diagnose and treat ADHD in children and adults.

“This important decision by the Allan Government and Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas MP, will ensure patients are able to access the treatment and support they need without costly referrals or long waits,” said The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President, George Tambassis.

“We have seen how successful this approach has been in community pharmacy and it’s pleasing to see other healthcare providers being able to expand the range of services offered," he said.

The McGrath Foundation raises money to fund McGrath Cancer Care Nurses right across Australia and deliver world-leading clinical and emotional support to people with any type of cancer throughout their treatment.
