🐰🌡️ “Keeping Cool: Protecting Rabbits from Heat Stress” 🌡️🐰

In this week’s Tiny Teachables, we’re focusing on how to help rabbits stay safe and comfortable during warm weather because heat stress can become dangerous far more quickly than many people realise.

Rabbits are highly susceptible to heat stroke, so providing cool, shaded spaces and constant access to fresh water is essential. On days over 30°C, rabbits should always be kept indoors and out of direct sunlight to protect them from overheating.

Recognising early signs of heat stress, such as lethargy or rapid breathing, is crucial for prompt intervention and can prevent serious illness.

Our Story

The Rabbit Doctors are a team of dedicated Veterinarians and Nurses supported by a large referral hospital in the Melbourne Suburb of Collingwood. Drs Gerry Skinner, Lizzie Selby, Ruby Ivanov, Nicole Su, and Supanee Tan are supported by Rabbit Nurses Dee, Alanna, Claire, and Anthea Woodrow along with a fully equipped 24hour Referral and Intensive Care Hospital. This means we are able to provide around the clock care for your rabbit companions. The Rabbit Doctors are available for both primary and referral consultation at the Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) in Collingwood business hours Monday to Friday and selected hours on Saturdays. Housecalls are available by request for vaccinations and general check-ups. All unwell bunnies need to come into the clinic in order for us to provide adequate care.
