In Oliver Burkeman’s book Meditation for Mortald, he argues that we should focus on making choices in the present that are aligned with what we value rather than procrastinating or trying to predict the best possible outcome.

Ali Abdaal Feel Good Productivity 📕 discusses how procrastination isn’t just about lacking motivation or discipline; it’s often caused by negative emotions like uncertainty and fear. When we don’t know what we should be doing or feel overwhelmed, we freeze and put things off—this is called the “fog of uncertainty.”
To overcome this, Abdaal suggests asking yourself, “Why?” to understand the purpose behind your task. This clears up confusion and gives direction. Next, ask “What?” to break down the task into specific, manageable steps. Abdaal recommends setting “NICE goals”—goals that are near-term, input-based, controllable, and energized, focusing on the process, not just the outcome. The third question is “When?”—time blocking or setting specific times for tasks helps ensure they get done.
Abdaal also explains how fear plays a major role in procrastination. Our brains, especially the amygdala, make us feel fear even when there’s no real danger. To overcome this, Abdaal advises labeling your fear (e.g., “I feel nervous”) to reduce its intensity. He introduces the idea of creating an alter ego, a more confident version of yourself, to face challenges without fear, calling it the “Batman effect.” Abdaal also highlights the spotlight effect, where we overestimate how much others notice or judge us, and suggests realizing that “no one cares” to reduce anxiety.
He advises using the 10/10/10 rule—asking how much a situation will matter in 10 minutes, 10 weeks, and 10 years, which helps reduce the intensity of fear. Abdaal also discusses how to handle self-doubt, suggesting the question: “How confident do I need to feel just to get started?.” Often, the answer is that you don’t need to be perfect; you just need to take action. Ultimately, Abdaal emphasizes that overcoming procrastination involves clearing emotional barriers like fear and uncertainty by asking the right questions, setting energizing goals, and taking small, steps.

Love from OSHO book, Love, Freedom & Alonesness: “In a relationship, though, people often take each other for granted. Each of us is a mystery, so to believe you know someone completely is insulting and disrespectful. With each day, we become different from yesterday, so you can never say that you actually know someone. Therefore, Osho advises us to, ‘’Relate again, start again, don’t take it for granted.’’
When you are relating, you are continuously trying to get to know another person and see the many facets of their personality. You are trying to discover their inner thoughts and feelings, and by that, you are finding out new things about you, too. ‘’Lovers become mirrors to each other, and then love becomes a meditation.’’
So, don’t put boundaries on love. Use each day to find new ways of loving and being with each other, and love will become a constant adventure for you.” https://12min.com/love-freedom-aloneness

This Independence Day, I’ve been thinking about what it really means to be “free.” We often focus on external freedoms—speech, movement, choices—but what about emotional freedom? The ability to respond to life with clarity, not reactivity. With compassion, not control. To lead from wholeness, not wounds.

In the powerful film The Wisdom of Trauma, Dr. Gabor Maté explores how early trauma shapes us—often without us even knowing. One example he uses is Donald Trump—not as a political target, but as a mirror of how childhood pain can shape adulthood, power, and even national leadership.

Donald Trump grew up in a household ruled by his emotionally distant, controlling father, Fred Sr. There was no space for softness. No room for feelings. Only winning. Only strength.Trump's older brother, Fred Jr., was more sensitive and emotionally open. He struggled in this environment and eventually died from addiction-related issues.

Donald? He adapted by armoring up. He became larger-than-life, aggressive, emotionally unreachable. He learned:
“Feelings are dangerous.”
“Only dominance earns love.”
“Weakness is shameful.”

This is a classic trauma response. Where one sibling collapsed, the other inflated.
Neither were truly free. Both were hurting.

Dr. Maté’s insight is powerful: when we don’t heal our trauma, we don’t outgrow it—we act it out. Even (and especially) in leadership.

So what if real freedom is the courage to face our pain… and choose differently?
What if emotional healing is the most radical act of liberation there is?
What part of me is still running on old survival patterns?
What kind of leader, partner, parent—or citizen—could I become if I truly felt safe to be myself?

Freedom starts within. 💛 https://thewisdomoftrauma.com/

Last month, I was introduced to The Wisdom of Trauma—a powerful documentary that follows the work of Dr. Gabor Maté as he explores addiction, trauma, and the pain we carry across generations.

What struck me most was how he shows that real healing begins not with trying to fix people, but by seeing them—with compassion, presence, and dignity. It reminded me why I chose to study with Gabor through his Compassionate Inquiry training. His work helped me understand trauma not as something that makes us broken—but as a response to unbearable disconnection, often formed in childhood, and often invisible to others.

In the film, a young man named Joey Carter shares a raw, soul-stirring poem—his story and vulnerability stayed with me long after the credits rolled. It’s a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when we meet pain with gentleness instead of judgment.

This film cracked something open in me. If you’re on your own healing path—or holding space for others—I highly recommend it.

📣✨ Spotlight: Compassion Prison Project ✨📣 https://compassionprisonproject.org/

I’m moved to share the work of Compassion Prison Project (CPP), a nonprofit striving to transform prisons into spaces of healing rather than punishment. Their focus is powerful and simple: when each of us heals our own trauma, we’re doing our part to heal the world.

🌱 What CPP Does
Compassion Trauma Circles & Trauma-to-Transformation workshops
Peer-led groups where incarcerated individuals reflect on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), build self-awareness, community support, and self-forgiveness.

Trauma Talks curriculum
A 16-part video and workbook series—used in prisons across the U.S. and globally—teaching the science of trauma and tools for healing.

Correctional Officer Training & ACE awareness
Educating staff about trauma, so prisons become safer and more compassionate environments for everyone inside.

Letter-writing & Giving Back campaigns
Encouraging community connection and meaningful communication to uplift incarcerated individuals.

💥 Why It Matters
CPP has reached prisons in California, the U.S., New Zealand, Northern Ireland, and Colombia.

Participants often say they’ve regained self-worth, learned empathy and forgiveness, calmed their nervous systems, and started to truly heal.

This trauma-focused work not only transforms individuals—it begins to reshape entire prison cultures into spaces of humanity and hope.

💭 Reflection
Can we shift our view of prisons from punitive systems to places of rehab and healing?

What if understanding childhood trauma is key to reducing violence and recidivism?

How can we bring this trauma-informed, community-based mindset into our own work, families, and relationships?

✅ How to Get Involved
Donate or volunteer to support the expansion of trauma-informed programs in prisons.

Share their message—many people don’t know this kind of healing work is even happening behind bars.

Write a letter and help bridge the isolation and stigma that so many incarcerated individuals face.

Compassion isn’t weakness—it’s the most radical, world-changing force we’ve got. And CPP is proving it—one circle, one story, one healed heart at a time. 💛

📽️✨ Featured Film: Crazywise ✨📽️ https://crazywisefilm.com/

Have you seen Crazywise yet?

This powerful documentary explores how Western psychiatry often labels psychological crises as mental illness, while many Indigenous and traditional cultures view these same experiences as potential spiritual awakenings or initiations.

🎬 The film follows:

Adam Gentry, who spiraled after side effects from medication and a loss of identity, then slowly found healing through meditation and alternative spiritual paths.

Ekhaya Esima, who overcame trauma, homelessness, and suicidal thoughts—only to find deep purpose through African healing traditions and peer-led support.

It features voices like Dr. Gabor Maté, who challenges the idea that crisis always means pathology—and invites us to consider: What if these intense moments are part of a healing journey?

🌿 Why I love it:
Crazywise invites us to reframe suffering not as something to suppress or fix immediately—but to sit with, witness, and support through community, ritual, and conscious care. It blends the worlds of science, spirit, and story in a way that feels deeply human and hopeful.

💬 Reflection Questions:

Have you or someone you love ever gone through a psychological or spiritual crisis?

What helped?

Could there be wisdom hidden inside the chaos?

You can stream Crazywise on platforms like Gaia or look into hosting a screening in your community.

Let me know if you’ve seen it—or tag a friend who might love it too.

Crazy…or wise? The traditional wisdom of indigenous cultures often contradicts modern views about a mental health crisis. Is it a ‘calling’ to grow or just a ‘broken brain’? The documentary CRAZYWISE explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychologi...

📚✨ Recommended Weekend Reads for Your Inner World ✨📚

One of my favorite ways to relax and reconnect with myself is through books that feed the mind and soothe the soul. Whether you're navigating a life transition, feeling a bit stuck, or just curious about the subconscious mind, these are some powerful reads I keep coming back to—and often recommend to clients on their healing journey:

🌿 The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer
A gentle yet profound guide to understanding the voice in your head, letting go of inner resistance, and finding peace in the present moment.

🌱 Atomic Habits by James Clear
Small, consistent changes can create big shifts. This book is pure gold if you're looking to build supportive routines or rewire old patterns.

🌀 The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk
A must-read for anyone healing trauma. It explains the mind-body connection in a powerful, science-backed way.

🪞 What Happened to You? by Dr. Bruce Perry & Oprah Winfrey
A compassionate look at how early life experiences shape us—and how understanding our story can unlock healing and growth.

🧠 Suggestible You by Erik Vance
For the curious minds—this one explores the science of belief, placebos, and how suggestion can influence our health, memory, and perception.

🌌 In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Dr. Gabor Maté
A raw, compassionate, and deeply human look at addiction, trauma, and the pain beneath our coping mechanisms. This one stayed with me for a long time:

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts Close Encounters with Addiction Hungry Ghosts (U.S. Title: In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction) From street-dwelling drug addicts to high-functioning workaholics, the continuum of addiction cuts a wide and painful swath through our culture.
