At AJM Support Work, there are a few things I will always stand by.

I never want to be a horrible or unfair boss, and I never want our clients to feel unheard or unsupported. This business means so much to me, not just because of the clients we support, but because of the incredible people who work alongside me every day.

Client satisfaction will always be at the heart of everything we do. Every enquiry, every service, every interaction matters. The trust that families place in me and my team is something I respect deeply, and I will never take that for granted.

At the same time, I genuinely value feedback from everyone. Not just our clients, but our workers too. Your voices matter. I am always open to listening, learning, and doing better where I can.

If things don’t work out, I always do my best to soften the blow. I take the time to reflect on where things may have gone wrong and look at how I can improve or fix those issues moving forward. But sometimes, despite best efforts, things don’t work out. And I won’t know what needs to change unless people feel comfortable enough to speak up.

I want things to work well for everyone involved. That balance is important to me.

At the end of the day, client choice and control is what makes this all work. It is the foundation of what we do, and it will always guide the way AJM Support Work operates.

We are all human, we are all learning, and we grow stronger together.

Thank you to my team and my clients for trusting me, supporting me, and helping shape AJM into what it is.

Today we recognise International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the strength, resilience and contributions of women across our communities, workplaces and families.

At AJM Support Work I am incredibly proud to work alongside strong, compassionate and dedicated women who show up every day to support others. Support work is not just a job. It is patience, understanding, advocacy and genuine care for the people we work with.

My team works closely with people in our community to assist with daily living, community access, personal care, independence and social connection. The work they do helps people live fuller and more meaningful lives, and that is something truly worth recognising.

Women make up a large part of the care and support workforce across Australia. Every day they step into roles that require empathy, problem solving, flexibility and a deep commitment to the wellbeing of others.

Whether it is helping someone get ready for their day, supporting them to get out into the community, assisting around the home or simply being a trusted person they can rely on, these moments matter more than people often realise.

As the owner of AJM Support Work, I am incredibly grateful for the women who are part of our team and for the women in our community who trust us to support them and their loved ones. The work done behind the scenes and out in the community never goes unnoticed and I am proud of the dedication shown every day.

While today focuses on celebrating women, we also want to acknowledge the importance of supportive allies. AJM Support Work is fortunate to have fantastic male support workers on our team who shares the same values of respect, professionalism and genuine care for the people we support. Having a diverse and respectful team strengthens the quality of care we can provide.

International Women’s Day is also a reminder of the importance of continuing to support, empower and recognise women in every part of our community. From workplaces to families, communities grow stronger when women are supported and valued.

To all the women who support, advocate, care for others, lead businesses, raise families and make a difference in ways both big and small, today we celebrate you.

Happy International Women’s Day from AJM Support Work.

At AJM Support Work, every single enquiry matters. Whether you are reaching out for yourself, your child, your parent or someone you love, I know that making that first phone call or sending that first message is not always easy. It often comes after a lot of thought, stress or uncertainty.

My commitment has always been simple. To help. If we have capacity and we are the right fit, my team and I will go above and beyond to provide supports that are safe, respectful and tailored to you.

If we are not the right fit, or if we simply do not have availability, I will never just say no and leave it at that. I will always do my best to help where I can, refer you to other local providers, or guide you toward options that may be better suited to your needs.

Because at the end of the day, it is not just about growing a business. It is about making sure people in our community are supported properly.

You deserve clarity. You deserve professionalism. And you deserve someone who genuinely cares about the outcome, even if it is not with AJM Support Work.

If you are unsure where to start, reach out. I am always happy to have the conversation.

Running a support service is something I take very seriously. It is built on trust, respect and professionalism from every direction.

From time to time, we are required to make changes to service arrangements. This can include adjusting schedules, modifying supports or in some cases ceasing services altogether. It is never something I enjoy doing. These decisions are not made lightly and are always considered carefully.

At AJM Support Work, we have a responsibility to both our clients and our employees. Support work must be safe, respectful and professional on both sides. Healthy working relationships require clear boundaries, mutual respect and appropriate expectations. When that balance is not being met, it is my role as a provider to step in and make the necessary changes.

Our priority will always be:
• The wellbeing and safety of our staff
• The dignity and quality of support for our clients
• Maintaining professional standards in line with NDIS expectations

We remain committed to providing reliable, respectful and high-quality supports within our community. Sometimes maintaining that standard means making difficult decisions.

Thank you to our incredible staff who show up with care and integrity every day, and to our clients who continue to work with us in partnership and respect.

To be honest, I do not think there will ever be the right words for something like this. All I can do is offer my deepest sympathy to the family involved near and far, and to anyone else who is living through similar situations or who is deeply triggered by what is unfolding before us.

The tragedy we are currently seeing across the news is exactly that, a tragedy. No matter how much investigation takes place, no matter what details are shared, we will never truly know why this happened. Anything beyond that becomes speculation, and that in itself is heartbreaking.

From my personal perspective, this outcome was never needed. But it may have felt like the only option available at the time. Families supporting loved ones with disability often carry enormous and relentless pressure. Every single one of them. We need more resources, more compassion, more understanding, and more acceptance. We simply need more support.

It does not matter where someone lives or how much they earn. Support should never depend on those factors. Families can only do so much. Burnout is real, especially when care is carried within the family home with little or no external help. Professional supports matter. Having trained people whose role and career is to support others matters.

My heart is with the family who have lost their lives, and with every individual and family facing similar struggles, particularly within the NDIS community.

If you are struggling, please reach out. You do not need to carry this silently or alone. Help is available.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: FEDERAL COURT CONFIRMS NDIS ACCESS RIGHTS
This is a significant decision that protects current and future NDIS participants.

On Wednesday 14 January 2026, the Federal Court of Australia handed down a landmark ruling that confirmed who can access the NDIS and how eligibility decisions must be made.

What was decided:
The Court rejected the NDIA’s attempt to limit access by arguing that people with disability must first prove other systems cannot support them.

The Court made it clear that this is not how the NDIS works.

What the Court confirmed:
• You do not have to prove other systems have failed first
• The NDIS is not a last resort system
• Eligibility is based on legislation, not administrative convenience

The Court confirmed that the correct legal test was applied when access was granted to a participant with significant spinal and neurological conditions. Importantly, the Court stated that access does not require checking whether other service systems could provide support first.

Why this matters:

This decision:
• Prevents unlawful gatekeeping of NDIS access
• Protects people with complex or fluctuating disabilities
• Reduces barriers for people applying to the NDIS
• Strengthens current internal reviews and appeals
As stated by legal advocates, the NDIS should never operate as a last resort system.

What this means for participants
If you have ever been:
• Refused access
• Told to rely on health, aged care, family or charity supports instead
• Blocked because other services exist

That reasoning has now been clearly rejected by the Court.
This ruling strengthens review and appeal processes already underway.

Know your rights

If you disagree with an NDIA decision:
Stage 1: Internal Review
Timeframe: within 3 months
Provide reasons and supporting evidence

Stage 2: External Review (ART)
Timeframe: within 28 days
Advocates and Legal Aid can assist at this stage

Key message
The Federal Court has confirmed that the NDIS exists to support people with disability, not to shift responsibility onto other systems.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, access to the NDIS is your legal right.

NDIS reform delays and funding pressure

The NDIS remains one of Australia’s most important social programs, but ongoing reform delays are putting pressure on the system’s budget. Reports suggest that without faster reform, the NDIS could face major financial strain in coming years.

For participants, that means it’s vital to stay engaged and informed. The more we understand the changes, the better we can advocate for quality supports that truly meet people’s needs.

At AJM Support Work, we’ll continue to keep you updated and ready for any upcoming adjustments, so you can plan ahead with confidence.
