Due to the severe weather event on the Sunshine Coast on Monday, we have been without power and had therefore needed to close the surgery yesterday. Today, we are operational with the help of generators, and so bookings can be made online for both in person and telephone consultations.

Ever since Covid and the vaccine mandate, there has been increasing distrust between the medical profession and the wider community. For good reason. Since the swift rollout of the experimental vaccines, the whole world was deceived and manipulated into accepting the mRNA treatments against their better judgment.

Fast forward 4 years ahead, and childhood vaccination rates are at an all time low, with a rising number of cases of vaccine-preventable illnesses such as measles. Parents are increasingly accepting the risk of the disease rather than that of the vaccines, which are being scrutinised more and more because of what happened in 2020 and 2021.

If there is any consolation from the misadventure of this troubled time, it is this: healthcare needs can still be provided ethically and accurately by doctors who do not compel their patients to participate in any treatments against their will, nor use the argument “for the good of society”. Those doctors do exist, and it is worth your health to be cared for by them.

We vaccinate our children in the hope that they don’t suffer from the ill effects of those communicable diseases. Many of these diseases are debilitating and do pose a public health risk. But we aren’t sure if those vaccinations are not causing us other chronic health disorders due to a lack of randomised controlled trials. The government and medical authorities still encourage us to take the available vaccines despite this. Ask the question of how safe a medical treatment is before receiving it.

Australians’ health mirrors the health of our children. To reflect back on how we grew up as children, we enjoyed good health from a lot more outdoor activities and less sedentary habits such as the use of electronic devices. If we desire good health for ourselves, we ought to emulate the healthy lifestyle we once enjoyed to our children also. It requires more discipline but it pays off in the long run. Make Australia healthy again.

Artificial intelligence: a blessing or a curse?

The advent of AI has brought about a lot of intrigue to society. Computers programmed to be able to do much of the thinking we would normally do ourselves makes us interested in what they can do for us. In healthcare, they are acting as if they were a healthcare professional, giving an opinion on someone’s condition.

Doctors know that they can reach an accurate diagnosis of a patient’s medical condition in about 70% of cases if they ask the right questions. But this does not work in reverse, where the patient is relied upon to give the doctor the information they think is relevant. Add on top of that the importance of a proper examination, knowing what to look for and how to interpret the signs of medical conditions to come to the right diagnosis. This is why artificial intelligence cannot replace a medical professional.

If you know you need medical care, go to a medical professional you can trust rather than a computer.
