💙 Fast Facts Friday – Christmas Edition 🎄

The festive season is busy but your health still matters.

Here are 5 quick facts to keep you well this Christmas:

1. 🎄 Stress levels peak in December
Even 10 minutes of downtime can lower cortisol and improve mood.

2. 💧 Hydration drops in hot weather
Most adults need around 2–3L a day more when travelling or active.

3. ❤️ Heart health risks increase over the holidays
Rich food + heat + stress can trigger symptoms. Don’t ignore chest pain.

4. 🦠 Summer viruses are still circulating
Gastro, flu and respiratory viruses remain common this time of year.

5. 🏃‍♂️ Small habits make a big difference
A walk after lunch, sunscreen, good sleep and balanced meals all help.

If something doesn’t feel right, book an appointment with your Doctor before the Christmas rush.

5 Health Signs Men Should Never Ignore

As Movember comes to a close, here is your reminder that looking after your health doesn’t stop on December 1st. Men are tough - but that doesn’t mean you should ignore changes in your body.

Here are 5 signs every man should pay attention to:

🚨 Unexplained fatigue
Persistent tiredness can signal sleep apnoea, anaemia, thyroid changes, low testosterone or heart issues.

⚖️ Sudden weight changes
Rapid gain or loss may be linked to diabetes, stress, hormonal imbalance or underlying illness.

🔥 Ongoing pain or swelling
Chest discomfort, abdominal bloating, joint aches or testicular swelling that lasts more than 2 weeks needs checking.

🌙 Snoring or poor sleep
Up to 1 in 4 Aussie men experience sleep apnoea, increasing heart attack and stroke risk.

🩸 Changes in bowel or bladder habits
Blood, pain, frequency changes or difficulty urinating can be early signs of bowel or prostate conditions.

✨ If something feels “off,” don’t wait it out. Early checks save lives.

💙 Fast Facts Friday - Movember Edition

This week we are focusing on men’s physical health because early detection saves lives.

Here are 5 things every man should know:

🩺 Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men.
Ask your GP when to start screening, especially if you are over 50 or have a family history.

⚠️ Testicular cancer is most common in young men aged 18–39.
Regular self-checks help catch changes early.

❤️ Heart disease is still the leading cause of death in Australian men.
Blood pressure, cholesterol and lifestyle factors play a major role.

🧪 Routine blood tests can detect issues early.
Diabetes, liver and kidney function, cholesterol, hormones, deficiencies and more.

🏃‍♂️ Around 70% of chronic disease risk is linked to lifestyle factors.
Better sleep, reducing stress, moving more and moderating alcohol matter.

If it has been a while since your last check-up or something feels off book your appointment by calling us on 📞 02 8529 8920 or book online

✨Fast Facts Friday - Movember 💙

Life can throw some big curveballs - but there is a lot we can do to look after ourselves and our mates.

Here are 5 things every man should know:

💙Life gets tough - it’s normal to struggle sometimes.
🤝Check in on your mates - even the ones who seem fine.
🔧Small changes matter - sleep, mood, social withdrawal are important signs.
💬Talking helps - you don’t need the perfect words, just listen.
⏳You don’t have to wait until you are in crisis - reaching out early makes a difference.

This November, try the ALEC approach:
Ask → Listen → Encourage action → Check in.

🕸️ Fast Facts Friday - Halloween Edition 👻

There are plenty of spooky health myths out there…
Let’s clear a few up!

Myth: Cold weather gives you a cold.
Fact: ❌ The weather itself doesn’t cause illness - viruses do. We just spend more time indoors which makes them spread more easily.

Myth: You should wait as long as possible to get that mole checked.
Fact: ✅ Early skin checks save lives. If you notice a change in size, colour or shape - get it looked at.

Myth: Sugar makes kids hyper.
Fact: 🍬 Research shows the excitement of events (like birthday parties!) is usually the cause of “hyperactivity,” not sugar alone.

Myth: You only need sunscreen in summer.
Fact: ☀️ UV levels in the Snowy Monaro are high year-round - sunscreen is for every season.

If you ever have a question about a health myth - just ask your GP.
We are here to help. 💙
