The journey to self discovery is brought by doing, action, playfulness, adventure, and a genuine curiosity for living life to the full!
Change happens with movement, and real healing.
How do i know this? My experience as a pilates instructor and Personal trainer has allowed me to experience change and healing with many of you.
Joseph Pilates said change happens through movement and movement heals.
It’s the same for my counselling practice i challenge people to move. Because when we stay stuck , we stay stuck. So for change to happen we must move and in the movement we heal.

THAILAND /Chiangmai
Day 10

Waking up today we packed up our belongings. It was time to leave our home away from home.
Ensuring that we had accounted for the keys to successful travel. That we had talked about all of the scenarios that may trip Kim up. Airport chaos waiting in lines, the public toilets, bright lights, noises, bells, dings and demands of doing all the things just to get on the plane.
However we were looking forward to heading to the Singapore airport and exploring some more. An air-train, the beautiful gardens, butterfly enclosure, and fish ponds.
It was time though to say our goodbyes. Hugs and tears all round, lots of beautiful words. Lasting connections strong bonds reformed and stunning memories to reminisce.
We arrived at the airport and had some difficulty navigating to the check in. I could see the terror in Kim’s eyes but I reassured her that we would get there. Another tearful goodbye to Jacob as we checked the bags and went towards customs.
Kim had packed an olive oil in her carry on and I mentioned to her about it before we left. However they took it off her and a few other items . All part of life’s learning about travel. Sometimes it’s best to allow mistakes to be made and then surmounted.
Singapore airport is like a village to explore. We hopped on and off the airtrain. Looked through the gardens. Walked through the butterfly enclosure and over the glass covered ponds of fish.
We were sad to leave but made the most of the last experiences. Enjoying Pizza and wine our last supper together. I asked Kim what the highlight was . Multiple she replied and some experiences that were difficult. They ended up being the best because she was proud of herself for overcoming the anxiety to give them a go.
Such a profound statement and it gives me a sense of pride. Knowing that I could be part of the journey to overcoming the hurdles in life that can stop Kim in her tracks.

DAY 9
Today we took the morning slow had a swim. Walked around the property admiring the wildlife and budgies and chickens, insect life and a cute little squirrel building its nest preparing for a family life
perhaps. Running across a branch in the trees going back and forth collecting sticks and leaves. So sweet unfortunately we have lost the video.
We ordered a grab meal for lunch a Thai traditional meal. Each choosing something
different to try. They arrived in little bags tied with a rubber band. Grab is like uber,
download the app and you have access to everything from transport to food and shopping.
Later in the afternoon we met with Jacobs brother and his fiancé. A special family moment for Kim and a chance to enjoy some more diverse experiences. We met them at a Thai cooking school called Grandmas Thai cooking School.
We laughed and joked , had such a great time. Kim was feeling a little dizzy. It was very hot and cooking exacerbated the atmosphere.
However I kept making sure that she was drinking water and resting too in between. By the time we had finished the class we were all so full of stunning amazing food we were so impressed! Such a stunning experience.
We went home to get ready to pack up and prepare for our flights. The holiday was nearly over and we were all feeling so full with gratitude and love for each other. It had really been such an incredible experience for all of us.
Kim and I had a debrief about medication any concerns she might have what the airport would be like going home. How that would look.
Ensuring her partner was onboard for ensuring rest on arrival. Not expecting too much over the next few days after her arrival home. Giving Kim time to adjust back into family life after
travel.
Travel is very draining and overstimulating not forgetting the barriers neurodivergent
people have at mitigating any issues before they become issues. Hydration, Food and
medication the keys to enjoying life to the full.

Day 8

Today was a chance for Kim and Jacob to meet with Jacobs brother and fiancé. We met them at the orchid farm and butterfly sanctuary.
We started with lunch a smorgasbord of Thai foods, noodle and rice dishes, curries and fried sensations. Fruit delicacies and beautiful drinks we each had a Thai coconut. We have been having them most days since we arrived so refreshing.
The orchids we established were the same type of orchid just different colours. The Thai people make beautiful pieces of jewellery out of them using resin and gold.
Butterflies are all different colours. They have them housed in a walk through enclosure. Just stunning as they land on you and fly around you very close.
Such a special moment for Kim as she enjoys nature in all its forms.
It is hot today and we were starting to feel tired. Jacob’s brother asked if we would like to join them for a look around an art and craft market so we did and enjoyed all the fun creations. The experiences are open o the public to pay for experiences which suited families with young children.
We decided to have a steak dinner tomight and went in to the Rimping supermarket to pick up our supplies. Australian beef is readily available and we were looking forward to a western meal.
We talked about the day we would have tomorrow with Jacobs brother at a Thai cooking school.
Kim and I also chatted about being sad to leave soon. So we started to explore the ways that could go in preparation for the travelling home. The flights and the times and what we needed to do. These talk sessions help to mitigate the overwhelm on the journey. Going there in the mind first prepares the path forward.

DAY 7

Day 7
We all slept in, such a treat and then went for brunch feeling refreshed we popped down the road to an authentic Thai restaurant for lunch it was amazing . The flavours were fantastic how they managed to fit them all in I’ll never know. A ramshackle place with the best food.
We then came back and rested by the pool, soaking up the sun. Enjoying the
natural surroundings.
The day kept getting better, we went out to dinner at a local Thai fresh smorgasbord.
Cooking your own food at the table. Selecting raw ingredients to cook your own dinner. Not a westerner in sight at all so communication was limited. We had no idea what anything was the meat was raw we could determine fish seafood and mostly pork and chicken some of the containers were empty. The idea was terrifying to Kim and I could see that Jacob was concerned for his Mum. Kim was as
she put it ”f- ing hungry and I don’t know what we are doing here”. So I said to Kim let me go and choose our ingredients and then we will cook. Jacob had chosen some already so I suggested to allow his Mum eat what he had made. He agreed and we averted a melt down.
Busy places with lots of people can be so difficult for Kim. She tends to get stuck in a fight or flight mode. Like a deer in head lights. After settling in and navigating the cooking at the table I was able to take Kim around the ingredients and explore the restaurant. Which helped in her having autonomy over the choice of foods. She also found the cheese balls and
fried chicken ha ha we were all happy about that, these had been replenished. They were empty when I first went round the tables of food. It turned into a very interesting experience. Sometimes supporting helps to get the ball rolling. This allows a person to relax and then as time moves forward it is easier for them to navigate for themselves. At Evoke
Counselling and support services you will notice this is how I work with people. Allowing them support and guidance just enough to then be able to build capacity in themselves and enjoy the experience of living life to the full. Despite the disability or the barrier. After our meal we ventured out to the local shop for supplies at the local Rimping Market. Rimping is a supermarket style store that we found to have all of our comforts we could rely on and recognise. Which helped us with snacks and our favourite drinks. It also gave us Thai
options to try which was fun too. Fried Chicken skin was interesting.
