- Did you know horses need about 30 minutes of REM sleep a day? Lying down is vulnerable for a horse so others provide protection - Being prey and herd animals, horses often take turns to rest like Valeta and Sonita with one watching over the other. How lovely to drift off to sleep knowing you can relax and someone's got your back. I often join the horses in a snooze and listen to their slow breaths. This opportunity is available to anyone coming for a session and experiencing herd observation or being with horses.

We were gifted a gorgeous hand made horse. Sonita and Valeta even shared their haynet with it.

CONNECTION: Valeta regularly invites me to connect with her through things she likes doing- playing and eating! She shows a lot of enjoyment doing these activities and likes the associated rewards - food and praise! Horses have similarities with humans eh 😜

Today at Sol Equus, the ducks and koala, as well as Ludo, Valeta and Sonita, all supported 'noticing the Other':
- noticing the environment, noticing others' personalities, strengths, vulnerabilities, and boundaries- all aspects of being aware of relationships with others. 🐴Valeta offered playfulness⚽️ and Sonita offered courage🌻.

Good Morning from Sonita. Being greeted in the morning like this gives me feelings of warmth and joy and brings a smile to my face. I'm grateful to be here.

At Sol Equus we don't have just 1 gaited horse. We have 2! Sonita is a Tennessee Walking Horse. While Valeta has expressive communication, Sonita's is a little quieter. Living her life in a herd, she is adept at social interactions and working together with others.

Today I watched Valeta and Sonita shake off the stress of moving and new paddocks- rolling, shaking the body, moving the neck, walking...so Ludo and I did that together too in the orchard!

What is it about animals and being in nature that draws you?
For me it's being present, no agenda, the soft touch of fur, innocent eyes, outdoors fresh air that brings feelings of joy and a calmness in my body. Next time you're out in nature I invite you to notice what is in your environment and body that might give you a sense of joy.

Valeta is very open with her opinions and emotions. She expresses happiness, frustration, playfulness often and loudly. She has no hesitation walking away when she feels discomfort or needs to process. I learn a lot from Valeta and she is willing to share her insights with others.
