Last week was Speech Pathology Week, celebrating the incredible role speech pathologists play in helping the millions of Australians that live with communication and swallowing needs.

Here at Elephant in the Room we're incredibly lucky to have a team of 4 speech pathologists – Brooke, Eliza, Jemma and Natalie – and we are proud of the difference their hard work and dedication is making in our communities.

We'd like to give a special shout out as well to our therapy assistants and support coordinators who support our speechies behind the scenes and in therapy sessions.

If you're in Dubbo on 23 August and looking for something to do do, you should absolutely go along to "Are You Pulling My Leg?" at Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre.

It's a comedy show by comedians with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and we just love that it's giving opportunities for performers who traditionally haven't had the same stage access.

The show will also be live captioned and Auslan interpreted to help everyone get the punchlines.

Today we had a rare opportunity to speak directly to our federal MP Jamie Chaffey MP about the needs of people with disabilities in our communities.

Nat, one of our directors, represented us at a roundtable with other local service providers. Nat spoke about the recent changes to NDIS funding and how it undermines the choice, equity, control and wellbeing of the people it’s supposed to support. Nat also spoke about how the changes are straining already overwhelmed service providers.

Thanks to Jamie and his team for organising today, and for taking the time to listen.
