Melbourne Cup - a great chance to dress up a little and bring out the hand made flower craft fascinators! This afternoon we enjoyed sparkling fruit punch with cheese and biscuits. Alton Lodge's hobby horses looked like they could do with some green pick and Avondale House's stuffed toy pony appeared to have been in good paddock! Linzy thrilled us with a vocal performance and the main thing was that everybody had a most enjoyable afternoon.

Help us congratulate Betty on her 104th birthday. What an amazing achievement with over a century of wisdom and quite an extraordinary life well lived. Betty’s grandson Leith, and therapy dog Iggy were part of the celebrations. Betty spoke of the secret to longevity is to be surrounded by good friends. Mary is about to turn 104 and we celebrated with the children from Tilly’s Cooranbong today. The children made Mary some cards, we shared cake, sang Happy Birthday, wore party hats, patted Iggy, Luke surprised us with some balloon shaping and we think it’s a 104th not to be forgotten. Father’s Day at ASL….we had big plans to celebrate today. But sometimes the best laid plans go astray. The rainy weather impacted our planned Vintage Car visit from Twin Lakes Classic Auto Club. So, we still enjoyed the yummy food treats including hot chips, maltesers, liquorice and spider drinks. Pr Kenn led sessions that involved some (terrible) dad jokes, stories and reminiscing about fathers and male role models; as well as times of old in general. Residents loved this opportunity to recall some personal stories and remember how things used to be. To all of the dads and male role models thank you for being part of our lives. We’ll try again next year for some vintage car action!

What a blessing to have the students of Avondale University visit with residents of Avondale House & Alton Lodge. For the Festival Of Faith the students sang songs of praise before chatting and engaging with residents. The future is certainly in good hands and we thank you for brightening our day!
