Senior Speechie (and admin) Amber has been off work for an extended period - this means emails, social media and phone calls have been affected along with her normal schedule.

She hopes to be back this week but appointments will often not be confirmed until the day, and may need to be moved at short notice. If you do have any illness in the family, Amber asks that you kindly cancel your appointment.

We’ll aim to get back to all who have contacted asap!

This OT Week we want to celebrate our amazing OT (Josie) and the amazing work she does with our families.

The theme for OT Week 2023 is "unity through community". So what does unity through community mean to me? It means when we work as individuals, we can only get so far. Our community is what brings us together as individuals, to form something bigger than the sum of our parts.

As Brene Brown says, "We are hardwired to connect with others, it's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, and without it there is suffering." Communities are made up of people who are striving endlessly to ensure everyone feels supported. The building blocks of my community have been formed by the amazing people I have the pleasure of working with, which includes my fellow OTs and allied health superstars and most importantly, my clients and their families. I witnessed the unstoppable force of my OT community in action earlier this year when I had the privilege of attending the National OT Australia conference in Cairns. It was a chance for us to come together and share stories of amazing people doing amazing things. It made me take a step back to reflect on how being an OT is truly the best job in the world!

Did you know that in 1996, September 8th was designated as World Physiotherapy Day?

This day marks the unity of the Physiotherapy community around the world as well as:
- showcases the significant role the profession makes to the health and wellbeing of the global population.
- raises the profile of the profession.
- campaigns on behalf of the profession and its patients/ clients to governments and policy makers.

Each year there is a set theme to highlight an aspect within healthcare that is addressed in physiotherapy. In 2023, the theme for World PT Day is “Arthritis and Inflammatory Arthritis” and the role of physiotherapists in the management of the diverse forms of arthritis.

A few quick facts:
There are more than 100 types of arthritis, despite it being commonly believed that there are only two!
Arthritis affects children too - approximately 1 child in every 500 will have a form of arthritis.

📚Not only is this week Speech Pathology Week, it’s also Book Week (this is your reminder to organise costumes!).

💕 We love books, and use them to target a range of goals in therapy! But why are they so good??

🧐 Reading books improves vocabulary and language skills, fosters empathy and understanding by exposing children (and adults) to diverse perspectives, reduces stress by providing an escape, and promotes lifelong learning and personal growth. It's also a way to expand knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Plus, they’re fun!

Do you have your book week outfits organised?
