Holiday celebrations can bring noise, crowds, unpredictable schedules and sensory overload. For children and adults with sensory sensitivities, this can turn what should be enjoyable into something overwhelming 🙉

Making celebrations more manageable doesn't mean missing out. Here are 5 tips:

✨ Create a quiet space people can retreat to when they need a break from the noise and activity
✨ Keep some routine around sleep and meals even when the schedule changes
✨ Let people know in advance what to expect - who's coming, what's happening, how long it will last
✨ Offer alternatives to group activities that still feel inclusive
✨ Plan shorter celebration times rather than all-day events

🗣️ SPEAK OUT! is a specialised speech therapy program developed specifically for people with Parkinson's disease. Unlike standard speech therapy, it uses proven strategies to help you regain and retain your speech and swallowing abilities.

The program includes individual sessions twice weekly, transitioning to weekly group sessions with ongoing support from a speech pathologist trained to deliver the program.

Maintaining functional skills over summer means working with the season, not against it. Here are some tips:

☀️ Don't over commit - keeping a loose routine helps maintain consistency without being rigid
☀️ Break tasks into smaller steps - this allows you to manage energy, especially in the heat!
☀️ Use phone alarms or use visual reminders - especially if if trips or visitors disrupt your usual schedule
☀️ Plan rest breaks throughout the day - this can help to manage fatigue between activities

Adaptability Therapy provides a wide range of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services around Brisbane, including the Bayside and Redlands areas. We also operate up to Caboolture and and the lower Sunshine Coast, and West to Ipswich and Toowoomba.

We're passionate about supporting people to live their best life, whether it’s gaining independence, learning new life skills or improving their safety and security at home.

Adaptability Therapy is a registered NDIS provider, and works with people of all ages from young people to those who are ageing.

We are a mobile service and can come to people in their own homes or in the community.
