In Okinawa, Japan there’s a beautiful practice called Hara Hachi Bu — eating until you feel about 80% full.
Hara Hachi Bu is the meeting place of mind body nutrition and ancient wisdom. Nourish deeply, digest calmly and allow your body to find its natural rhythm.
It’s not about restriction, it’s about honouring the body with just enough. And when we eat this way, the body listens.
Digestion stays relaxed as your gut isn’t overwhelmed and can therefore do its job with grace and efficiency.
Cortisol stays lower as overeating can stress the system. Eating to comfortable satisfaction keeps the body out of survival mode which supports healthy hormones and weight wellness.
Hunger and fullness cues reset as your body can clearly communicate when it’s hungry and when it’s had enough - a gift in a world of rushed eating and stress.
At your next meal, try slowing down just a little and notice the moment you feel satisfied - not full. It’s a beautiful practice allowing the body to honour its wisdom.
