I have the privilege and honour of getting to work with hundreds of women in my job and every day I am inspired by you all.

Today I am taking a moment today to think of women everywhere. Those who have come before us, fighting battles so we can have more rights than they did and women now, fighting for the right to be in charge of their own bodies and lives.

I love the saying that behind a successful woman is a tribe of women who have her back. Thank you all for having mine.

Here is a question for you.... are you a Reformer snob?

Are you only coming to Reformer classes? And if so, why?

Is it because you think matwork is too easy because it "only uses bodyweight"?

So much of what we do on the Reformer is actually supposed to be prep work to get there on the mat. Sometimes we forget that there is a lot of strength and control required just to be in charge of our own bodies and get them to do what we want.

Here I am demonstrating a move called "short spine" on the Reformer, using the straps on my feet to help guide me up into a lift of the hips and rounding of the spine. On the mat we do the "roll over" requiring the same ultimate shape but without the help of the straps to get my legs back over my head and nothing but my abs to stop me from just crashing back down.

It's March Matness - a month long expedition into the original 34 Pilates Mat exercises. Be prepared to be challenged, for some things to feel familiar but for some things to feel new and maybe a little scary because as I am so often trying to impress upon all who come to our space - the mat is where the REAL work happens. No springs to help you, no Reformer to guide you or get your legs up in that "impossible" position, just you and your body.

We are going to work our way up throughout the month - layering and leveling up as is our way at Focus to make it achieveable for all levels. But be prepared to challenge yourself, to get uncomfotable, to dig deeper on what your experience of Pilates has already taught you and also to accept that things aren't always what they seem and allow yourself to learn.

The creator of our beloved workout was all about spinal health and we make this a focus in our classes ensuring you move in a variety of ways every class and take care of your whole body.

It's what has you leaving with that feeling - you know the one. That "wow, that was hard but now I feel great" feeling. It all stems from the spine ❤️

UPDATE - Due to changes in instructor availability and also recent booking numbers we will be closed on Sundays for the forseeable future.

Sundays have been inconsistent for a few months now and we often find classes only half full or with insufficient numbers. We also know that as we head into the cooler months sports become a high priority taking up weekends for many of our clients. It is for these reasons I have made the decision to remove our Sunday classes for a while. I am constantly watching booking numbers and adjusting our timetable to ensure we are offering classes at the right times but we also have to balance this with instructor availability and capacity.

I hope you all understand this decision is for the longevity of the business and so we can continue to bring you classes for a long time.

Love reading the reviews you leave ❤️ it helps us know what you love and appreciate about our classes so we know what to keep doing as well as what you maybe don't enjoy as much so we know if tweaks need to be made to our teaching or class style.

Having said that, if its just you whinging about having to do planks.... we will just keep scrolling 😂
