Smoked in the past? A simple scan could save your life.

From July 2025, you may be eligible for this lung cancer screening if:

You’re aged between 50 and 70
You’ve smoked for a significant time (typically around 20–30 years or more)
Currently smoking or given up in the last 10 years
You currently don’t have symptoms of lung cancer

It doesn’t matter if you’ve quit. In fact, many former smokers qualify, and early detection still makes all the difference.

Lung cancer is often found too late. This scan helps catch it early, when treatment is more effective.

Qualitas Medical Practice can help check if you’re eligible — all it takes is a quick GP appointment.

If you're over 50 with a smoking history, you may be eligible for a new government lung cancer screening program. Talk to your GP at Qualitas Medical Practice today.

Australia is facing an alarming surge in influenza cases and deaths. In 2024, flu-related fatalities increased by 65.7% compared to the previous year, with 1,006 deaths recorded—up from 607 in 2023. Early data from 2025 indicates that January and February flu deaths have already surpassed trends seen in previous years. (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics)

Health experts are particularly concerned about the early onset and severity of this flu season, noting a significant rise in laboratory-confirmed cases across the country since January. Despite the availability of updated flu vaccines targeting the challenging H3N2 subtype, vaccination rates remain low. A recent survey found that nearly one-third of Australians hadn't received a flu shot in the past two years.

The flu vaccine is free for eligible Australians under the National Immunisation Program. Vaccination remains the most effective defence against severe illness, hospitalisation, and death.

Don't wait—protect yourself and your loved ones.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition that can affect movement, balance, and coordination — but it’s so much more than its symptoms. For those living with Parkinson’s, and for the loved ones who support them, the journey can be filled with both challenges and courage.

Early diagnosis can make a significant difference, helping people better manage symptoms and maintain quality of life for longer.

While symptoms vary from person to person, common signs include:

Tremors or shaking at rest (often starting on one side)
Muscle stiffness that can cause pain or impact posture
Slowed movement that makes daily tasks more difficult
Noticeable changes to posture

But early signs aren’t always obvious. They can feel vague — things like:

Persistent fatigue
Mild depression or restlessness
Localised muscle pain

If you or someone you care about has noticed changes, even small ones, don’t dismiss them. Your GP is here to help — from listening and assessing symptoms to arranging tests and referring you to a specialist when needed.

Reach out early. You're not alone.

Book a consult with your GP today.
