Under the supervision of Dr. Hamed Niyazmand, Dr. Jeremiah Lim, and Associate Professor Khyber Alam, Lucie Anderson, a final year Doctor of Optometry student from UWA, presented research at the American Academy of Optometry 2025 conference in Boston. Their study highlights the potential role of retinal ON and OFF pathways in the early detection of glaucoma.

UWA Doctor of Optometry students contributed to the inaugural School of Health and Clinical Sciences interprofessional education (IPE) seminar on the 15th of August 2025 🩺👩‍⚕️💊Students worked on a collaborative care case for a patient with diabetes through case based discussion to appreciate holistic care models, private vs public, collective competence, communication channels and expectations, roles and responsibilities, costs, to achieve improved health outcomes together as high performing interdisciplinary teams 🤩🤝

Last week, we had the privilege of recognising the achievements of our current Doctor of Optometry students and graduates at the School Prize Giving Night.

UWA Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences is pleased to partner with Paralympics Australia. We recently hosted the 2025 Vision Impairment Classifier training.

Optometrists Hannah Jackson and Jingyi Chen successfully completed training to become National Classifiers, enabling them to conduct classification of athletes at The Eye Health Centre of Western Australia (EHCWA).
