Anxiety can show up in so many ways — and it’s different for everyone.

It can feel like:
• Overwhelming tension 😣
• Heart-pounding fear 💓
• Paralyzing worry
• Suffocating uncertainty
• Racing thoughts 🌀
• Mind-numbing dread
• Breath-stealing panic
• Nauseating unease

Even when it looks invisible from the outside, it can be all-consuming on the inside.

If anxiety feels familiar to you or your child, know this: support, tools, and strategies exist. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Wellbeing Wednesday 🌿

Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Try 5 Finger Breathing.

Trace around the edges of one hand with your finger:
• Breathe in as you move up each side of a finger
• Breathe out as you move down

Repeat for all five fingers. Slow, intentional breaths help calm the nervous system and bring your focus back to the present moment.

A small practice, but a powerful way to regulate your mind and body anytime, anywhere.

People with ADHD want you to know: 💛

• We’re not lazy — we’re doing our best.
• ADHD isn’t just about being hyperactive.
• Getting a planner might not magically fix things.
• Being late? It’s often time blindness, not carelessness.
• ADHD touches every part of our life — from work to relationships to daily routines.

Support, understanding, and patience make a world of difference.
Simple gestures, kind words, and realistic expectations help us thrive.

ADHD isn’t a flaw — it’s a difference. And with awareness and compassion, everyone benefits.

ADHD isn’t just about being “distracted” or “hyper.”

It’s a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity — impacting focus, organisation, and self-control. But there’s more beneath the surface.

For many people with ADHD, rejection sensitivity is real.
It can show up internally as:
• “I’m so stupid.”
• “I’m such a failure.”
• “It’s my fault.”
• “I never do anything right.”

Or externally, as:
• Passive aggression
• Yelling or tantrums
• Competition or quiet seething
• Moments of violence or emotional outbursts

Understanding both the internal and external experiences of ADHD helps parents, teachers, and peers respond with empathy — rather than frustration.

ADHD isn’t a flaw. It’s a difference, and with the right support, skills, and understanding, people with ADHD can thrive.

Don’t forget to take a break this Sunday.

Rest is not something you earn. It’s something you deserve.

“I will not hold back from taking a break & resting;
my mind and body deserve to slow down.”

In a world that constantly pushes productivity, choosing to pause is powerful.

Slowing down helps regulate your nervous system, reduce stress, and restore emotional balance. It allows your brain and body to recover — so you can show up sustainably, not just successfully.

Let today be softer.
Let it be slower.
Let it be enough.

If you or your child need support with stress, burnout, or emotional wellbeing, our team is here to help.

Switch off. Step outside. Soak up the green.

Nature has a powerful way of calming the nervous system, lowering stress levels, and helping both kids and adults reset.

Fresh air. Sunlight. Movement.
No pressure. No performance. Just presence.

Even 10–20 minutes outside can improve mood, focus, and emotional regulation.

This weekend, give your brain a break from screens and stimulation — and let nature do what it does best.

If you or your child need support with emotional wellbeing, routines, or regulation, we’re here to help.

What you do before bed shapes how you feel tomorrow.

A simple night routine can help calm the nervous system, improve sleep quality, and reduce next-day stress.

🌙 Switch to night mode (and consider a digital detox) to give your brain a break from stimulation.
💧 Drink some water to stay hydrated overnight.
📝 Plan for tomorrow so your mind isn’t racing with unfinished thoughts.
🛁 Create a small self-care ritual — something consistent that signals “it’s time to wind down.”

Sleep isn’t just rest — it’s regulation, recovery, and reset.

If you or your child struggle with routines, anxiety at night, or emotional regulation, our team at Building Better Brains is here to support you.

Mental health isn’t always about big changes.

Sometimes it’s the small, intentional habits that shape how we feel each day.

☀️ Getting up a little earlier to create space before the rush.
☕ Making a cup of coffee (or tea) and actually sitting to enjoy it.
💛 Taking a moment to appreciate yourself — your effort, your growth, your resilience.
✔️ Doing one productive thing that moves you forward.

Tiny actions. Consistent impact.

Your mental health deserves daily care — not just attention when things feel hard.

If you or your child need support building healthy habits, emotional regulation, or confidence, we’re here to help.

Self-soothing isn’t about avoiding your feelings — it’s about supporting your nervous system through them.

When emotions feel big, overwhelming, or hard to manage, small intentional actions can help bring your body and mind back to safety.

Try:
• Journaling your feelings to release what’s sitting inside
• Wearing comfy socks or wrapping up in something warm
• Listening to soft, calming music
• Reading purely for enjoyment
• Doing something creative without pressure
• Taking a walk in nature and slowing your breathing

These simple tools help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and build emotional resilience over time.

Self-soothing is a skill — and like any skill, it can be practised.

Social anxiety isn’t just “shyness.”

It can look like overthinking every interaction.
Replaying conversations afterwards.
Avoiding situations where you might be noticed.
Saying “I’m just busy” instead of “I’m overwhelmed.”

Sometimes it looks like:
• Avoiding asking for help
• Hiding parts of yourself to “fit in”
• Skipping meetings or social events
• Feeling intense fear in everyday interactions
• Being hyper-aware of how you’re coming across

And often, it’s invisible to everyone else.

If this resonates with you or your child, know this: social anxiety is common — and it’s treatable. With the right support, skills can be built, confidence can grow, and social situations can feel safer.

You don’t have to navigate it alone.

You are not alone. Feeling anxious doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human.
Anxiety is your nervous system asking for safety, not a sign that something is “wrong” with you.

Pause. Take a breath. Let your body settle. 🌿
Support, understanding, and healing are possible, and you don’t have to navigate it all by yourself.

At Building Better Brains, we walk alongside children, teens, and families with compassionate, neuro-affirming, trauma-informed care, creating spaces where minds can feel safe to grow.

Building Better Brains Australia - About us

Building Better Brains Australia is the love child of husband and wife team – Sian Chambers-Vallance, (clinical play therapist, creative arts counsellor, consultant and trainer, advocate for child centred, trauma informed and brain wise systems) and Tony Vallance, (secondary teacher nominated for teacher of the year 2018 (VIC) and 2019 (Australia), Founder of Steamworks, trainer, educational consultant, graduate educator coach and passionate advocate for connection based, STEAM and creativity education).

Just as BBB Australia is the bridge between the similar but different work Sian and Tony do to grow capacity and care in the systems they work with, it is also the bridge between the 20+ years of neuroscience and trauma research that needs to start forming the basis of best practice in the systems around our children, and surrounding all human beings.

The mission of Building Better Brains Australia is to help make the world a better place through training, consultancy, education, connection and empowerment. We work to grow capacity and understanding in the systems around the next generation of children in our care – parents, educators and mental health professionals.

We aim to help educational facilities, parents, workplaces and health professionals become more brain wise, trauma informed and child centred in their systems. Through education, connection and empowerment we are stronger together and can grow a more emotionally intelligent generation who can embody future skills such as emotional intelligence, creativity, problem solving and team work (as identified by the World Economic Forum) and embrace resiliency in a highly changeable world.
