MEET SCOTT

Scott founded Sapien Rehab and Performance in 2019 with a clear vision: to deliver physiotherapy that goes beyond symptom management and creates lasting transformation through movement.

From day one, Scott set out to offer the longest appointments in the industry—so every client gets the time, attention, and depth of care they deserve, without ever cutting corners.

Scott has helped clients become Olympians and world champions in surfing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and has worked with world champion boxers. He currently works alongside some of the best coaches in surfing and boxing, and is proud to support some of the top junior and up-and-coming athletes on their journey to the elite level.

Qualifications & Background
* Doctor of Physiotherapy, Bond University (2014)
* Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, University of Sydney (2012)
* Over 10 years specialising in sports physiotherapy and complex musculoskeletal rehabilitation
* 6 seasons working in the Mentawai Islands, partnering with Hidden Bay Resort
* Personal experience recovering from shoulder surgery, disc herniation, and three years of sciatica—bringing firsthand understanding to every client’s journey

Clinical Focus
Scott specialises in spinal rehabilitation, disc herniations, and shoulder injuries—working with clients who need depth, precision, and a systematic approach to complex cases. He’s passionate about athlete development—especially in surfing—combining performance training, injury prevention, and long-term athlete support. From juniors with big dreams to seasoned competitors, Scott’s approach helps athletes reach their full potential.

Whether it’s post-surgical rehab, chronic spinal or shoulder pain, or returning elite athletes to competition, Scott combines evidence-based practice with hands-on care and gym-based progression to deliver results that last.

What’s Next?
Scott is currently expanding Sapien’s reach, launching a second location on North Stradbroke Island to bring the same level of care to the Straddie community and visiting athletes.

MEET BYRON

Byron O’Neill has been an integral part of the Sapien team since 2021.
With a Doctor of Physiotherapy (2017) and Bachelor of Exercise Science from Bond University, Byron brings a unique approach to rehabilitation—combining hands-on care with targeted exercise interventions to help you build strength, function, and confidence.

A Local Who Gets It

Born and raised in Tweed Heads, Byron is a dad, a surfer, and someone who truly understands what it’s like to be sidelined by injury. After dealing with his own disc herniation, Byron worked his way back to surfing—an experience that deepened his understanding of what it takes to return to the activities you love.

His career has seen him work with elite and recreational surfers, everyday athletes, and local sporting clubs including the Bilambil Jets Rugby League Club and the Tweed Heads Seagulls.

In recent years, Byron has developed particular expertise in post-operative knee rehabilitation, rehabilitation for surfing injuries and helping numerous patients navigate the journey from surgery back to full function and sport.
