📣 Changes to Short Term Accomodation 📣

📣 Changes to Short Term Accomodation 📣

Short term accommodation is now called short term respite.

We spoke with participants, families and carers about this change. Most told us that short term respite better reflects the value of informal supports and the importance of sustaining these relationships.

We know some people have concerns about the word ‘respite’, but many carers and families use and understand it well. After considering all the feedback, we chose this name because it’s clear and widely recognised.

Short term respite gives you time away from your usual care arrangements, while your primary informal supports take a short break.

We’ve updated Our Guideline to make it easier for you to understand and use. It explains:

✅ who can use short term respite

✅ what it includes

✅ how it works

✅ where it can be used.

💭 "The greatest thing in the world is to know how to belong to oneself." - Michel de Montaigne
But what about belonging to each other?
Sometimes the journey to self-belonging begins with authentic connection to others. We learn who we are through the mirror of meaningful relationships.
What's one relationship that's helped you understand yourself better?

MYTH BUSTER: "Loneliness only affects people who are alone." ❌
TRUTH: You can feel lonely in a crowded room, surrounded by family, or even in a relationship.
Loneliness isn't about being physically alone - it's about feeling emotionally disconnected and misunderstood.
The cure isn't more people. It's more authentic connection.
