VMG Clinics

VMG Clinics VMG is a veteran owned and run family enterprise. The two principal GPs are current serving Army GPs.

VMG aims to improve access by providing 'slow medicine' through a combination of home visits, telehealth, and eventually consulting rooms. At its core is an understanding of military service and the bio-psycho-social impacts this has on veterans and their families. The lived experience of our staff as serving members, or as ADF families, enables VMG to provide culturally competent care to ADF families

VMG aims to improve access by providing 'slow medicine' through innovative, high-quality, culturally competent primary health care to these populations utilising a sustainable business model. VMG will provide services utilising a combination of home visits, telehealth, and eventually consulting rooms, with the following funding model:

1. No out-of-pocket primary health care services for ADF families through utilising the ADF Family Health program to cover the gap fee

2. Bulk-billed veteran health services (Department of Veterans Affairs)

⚠️ BOIL WATER ALERT - DARWIN AND PALMERSTON

A boil water alert is issued for Greater Darwin and Palmerston and surrounding areas due to the flooding of Darwin River Dam.

Use cooled boiled water or bottled water for:
• Drinking
• Preparing food

• Brushing teeth

Residents are urged to conserve the water supply for the above uses only.

Darwin residents, we need your support.

Darwin River Dam stopped operating at 4.30pm today due to substantial flooding of the pump station and associated equipment. The dam wall was not impacted.

This is an unprecedented situation and we have never seen this volume of water in the dam before.

Our crews are working to get the dam operational again using generators but, in the meantime, we need the Darwin community to reduce their water use.

We’re good at pulling together when needed. And we need everyone to pull together now.

We thank you for working together through this event and will keep you updated.

⚠️ Melioidosis alert - wet weather risk

Heavy rain, flooding and strong winds can increase the risk of melioidosis. The bacteria lives in soil and surface water and can enter the body through cuts, sores or by inhaling dust and droplets. Although most common in Australia’s Top End, cases have previously been diagnosed in limited numbers in Central Australia.

Symptoms can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, skin sores that don’t heal, or abscesses. Early treatment is critical.

The risk is higher for people with diabetes, kidney or lung disease, heavy alcohol use, cancer, or weakened immune systems - but anyone can be affected.

To protect yourself against melioidosis, you should:
• wear covered waterproof footwear outdoors
• use gloves when gardening
• clean and cover cuts with waterproof dressings
• avoid high-pressure hosing soil
• stay indoors during heavy wind and rain

If you are concerned about having melioidosis symptoms, visit your local GP, clinic or hospital.

Many health conditions don’t show symptoms early on. An annual GP check helps identify issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, or cholesterol changes before they become serious.

Regular check-ups mean:
• Early detection
• Better long-term health outcomes
• Personalised advice for your stage of life

Prevention is always better than cure.

March is Endometriosis awareness month — you can start early!

Endometriosis affects 1 in 9 women and people assigned female at birth — yet many continue to live with symptoms for years before receiving answers.
Knowing the signs can make a difference:
- Persistent pelvic pain
- Painful periods that impact daily life
- Pain during or after in*******se
- Bloating, fatigue, or nausea
- Fertility challenges

Pain is not something you should have to “just live with.” If symptoms are affecting your quality of life, speaking with your GP can be an important first step toward support, investigation, and management options.

This March, we stand with those living with endometriosis — raising awareness, encouraging conversations, and reminding you that you are not alone.
